Weekly Comics Discussion – May 30, 2007

As always, the complete list can be found here.

Dark Horse Comics

  • PENNY ARCADE VOL 4 BIRDS ARE WEIRD
  • STAR WARS KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC #17

DC Comics

  • ACTION COMICS #850
  • AMAZONS ATTACK #2 (OF 6)
  • BLUE BEETLE #15
  • COUNTDOWN 48
  • GREEN LANTERN #20
  • JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA

Marvel Comics

  • AVENGERS NEXT REBIRTH – This series, set in the future Spider-Girl continuity, wasn’t too bad.
  • CIVIL WAR COMPANION – Collects the Files, Battle Damage Report, Spotlight, and other “Handbook” style entries in unreviewable formats.
  • DAREDEVIL #97 – Brubaker’s run has been great so far.
  • FANTASTIC FOUR THE END PREMIERE HC – This series wasn’t bad, either.
  • NEW AVENGERS ILLUMINATI #3 (OF 5) – This time, they face the Beyonder.
  • SILVER SURFER REQUIEM #1 (OF 4) – Written by Straczynski, painted by Ribic. I’m on board for this.
  • ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #42
  • ULTIMATE GALACTUS TRILOGY HC – Not too bad. I’m not impressed with the Ultimate version of Galactus, and Ultimate Secret didn’t really seem to accomplish all that much, but it might read better as a complete set.

  1. Ronin
I was sure he was the Cap. Dang!

I guess he hasn’t been dead long enough to come back yet :\

  2. Holiday Delay
I heard that this week’s comics won’t be out until Thursday because of Monday’s Memorial Day holiday in the US.

    • Other Delays

-The final issue of Strangers in Paradise was supposed to be out this week. It appears to be delayed.

-Due to the Memorial Day delay and my own schedule, the review of the first four issues of Countdown will have to wait ’til next week.

  3. Illuminati
Anyone have any opinions on Illuminati? It seems kinda ‘Eh’, but I get the feeling they’re building to something, and still trying not to make it so odd that they have a lot of unrelated characters acting together in the past when we know they didn’t (until now.)

That (and New Avengers #31) are supposed to lead directly into next summer’s Big Event. I wasn’t blown away by Bendis’ other Big Events (to the point that I never even got around to reviewing "House of M") so I have my reservations about this. As you said, it seems bland now, but could easily reveal some larger machination that has yet to come to fruition.
