I was upset Not because it was ending, but because the Asgard are now extinct and they barely mentioned it. I think they deserved at least four or five episodes. I really hope they talk more about this on Atlantis next season, because it’s changed things significantly. Or it should have, anyway. Especially with all the Asgard knowledge they now have.

I agree. They wasted a good 5-7 episodes this season with filler episodes, which I can’t understand given that they knew it was their final season (why not do a nice 5-6ep arc and close all the loose ends?). So now the Asgard are all gone, presumably Earth managed to get their database back safely, and what else? I remember reading there will be a miniseries to wrap things up farscape-style, but this was still brought about way too fast. This should have at least been a double episode.

That has always been my main complaint with SG1, too many fluff episodes. Compare SG1’s history of a good 5-10 fluffers per season vs BSG’s 1 or 2 maybe – uh, I want compelling stories, not ST:TNG junk in another guise.

That has always been my main complaint with SG1, too many fluff episodes. Compare SG1’s history of a good 5-10 fluffers per season vs BSG’s 1 or 2 maybe – uh, I want compelling stories, not ST:TNG junk in another guise.

Well that was part of the reason for Stargate’s success. Episodes that don’t really push the overall plot make the show a lot more attractive to casual viewers and are probably why it was able to last a gazillion seasons.
However for the finale itself I think the main problem was they had already eliminated all the big threats, the Ori were dead and their army isn’t nearly as threatening without godlike beings behind it, the daughter was dead or ascended, and the gauld were long gone as a credible threat. The episode had an interesting literary slant (contrasting their response dealing with a seemingly inevitable death to the Asgard’s) though it didn’t have the intensity, nor the resolution, that one normally expects from a finale.

But if they Ori have lost their main power structure (i’ve not seen the ep yet), is the proposed TV movie just going to be a battle against somewhat equal forces?

Nope, the Series finale aired June 22, not quite a week ago.

Not in the US, but they’re a little behind the times ;)
Weak I agree, it was very weak. Had it been in the middle of the season, I would have thought it was a very weak filler episode.
If I understand this correctly The US Airforce gets a stargate, and within ten years they have exterminated two ancient, powerfull races, and brought another to it’s knees?

"We" were instrumental in defeating the Goa’uld. Ra knew that humans from earth were a threat way back in the movie. It was more the appearance of humans with high tech equipment that was not made by the Goa’uld that helped spark the Jaffa rebellion, and the fact that humans managed to contact the Asgard, and the fact that humans were able to bridge the gap between the Jaffa and the Tok’ra. All of that, combined with the new insight and strategies brought into the fight by the humans of the Tau’ri, are what tipped the balance.
That said… the Goa’uld System Lords may have been defeated, and Anubis may be occupied indefinitely, but there are still Goa’uld out there!
Meh I’d have liked the last ever episode of Stargat:SG1 to deal with something OTHER than everyone’s attempts to stave off BOREDOM.
Course, I realised later on that night that all the SFX budget went to Atlantis.
Not good "weak and disappointing" sums it up perfectly. But then that generally goes for the series as whole, it was never clever scifi just superficial fluff.
