X-Files, Farscape, and BSG News

joe__gee writes, Today I saw on several news sources that David Duchovney has spilled (some of) the beans on an X-Files sequel for the big screen. More below

There’s also news on forthcoming Farscape and BSG mini -and web- episodes.

Back to X-Files

The film will (really) begin shooting this fall, for 2008 release. This movie could be a disappointment to anyone waiting for more stories about the great alien invasion conspiracy. Accourding to Premium Hollywood, the script will not further the alien invasion plot, instead it will be a one-off monster-of-the-week type episode. Apparently Carter and crew think our memories are too short to try and connect story lines that are five years old. Mulder who?

  1. Not memory issue
It’s not a knock on the memories of the fans; Carter has said from the start that odd numbered movies will continue the alien invasion plot, and even numbered movies will be single, contained stories. (I think he was picturing a more successful franchise, akin to Star Trek in the 80s.)

    • Odd Numbered Star Treks
Your post gave me a lovely mental image of Gene Roddenberry in a meeting:

"The way I envision this franchise, the even numbered movies are going to be exciting and fun sci-fi stories, the odd numbered movies will be less exciting and fun, and the movies divisible by five will be terrible."

Thansk for the info. I hope he gets a decent enough box office return from this flick to finish off the invasion arc. :)

No, no, no, no…I can’t take any more of that muddled, oft-boring storyline: "Oh, you thought it was this, but it was really this all along!" – lather, rinse, repeat…about 15 times. Honestly, I question the intelligence of anyone who wants more X-Files alien "mythology" junk. By at least the 7th season, if not earlier, those episodes were unwelcome intrusions compared to the "one-off" episodes, and were parodies played as drama.

Keep the conspiracy around just enough so that Mulder doesn’t appear paranoid (to the audience, at least), but make the movies self-contained otherwise.

The only thing I thought was interesting was the conspiracy… at first, then i realised they hadn’t got a clue and was disappointed and left. Monster of the week stuff is not something that i care about, which means this second movie will be something I’ll zap through on the tv one night and perhaps catch one scene. ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzz

This does little to further civil discourse on this thread. I’ve got nothing to add. :)

          Ciao.

You’re right, though I was just kidding. My apologies if I was being too much of an A-hole with that.

You’re obviously not a comic book fan – retconning is a way of life for any of the major comic book franchises and X-files has got nothing on, say, the Green Lantern continuity.

Seriously! The only alien conspiracy episode I remember liking felt more like a monster of the week (the one with Alex Trebek and the smoking alien).

My faves were always the one where Mulder looks like a complete fool, even though he’s very nearly right on the money about his insane theory.

"Jose Chung’s ‘From Outer Space.’" That remains my favourite X-Files episode (though there are many I have never seen) because it parodies the show so brilliantly from within.
