There’s a lengthy list this week, and another coming next week.
First, the DVD releases:
- 10:30 PM Summer
- Alien Worlds 20 Movie Pack: As usual, they don’t reveal the movies in the set.
- Avant Garde 2: Experimental Cinema 1928 – 1954: Kino does a great job with their releases, and this set should include some rarely seen innovations in the field.
- Bela Lugosi: Master of Horror 10 Movie Pack: No, they don’t reveal the titles.
- Benson – The Complete First Season: This may or may not be the season with a young Jerry Seinfeld.
- Best of TV Detectives: Again, no listings.
- Beyond The Grave 20 Movie Pack: There’s no manufacturer’s listing, but there’s already a user listing. Expect the other Mill Creek sets to have such comments within a week, should the patterns hold.
- The Big Bad Swim: This did well on the Indie circuit.
- A Bit of Fry and Laurie – Season Three
- A Bit of Fry and Laurie – Season Four
- A Bit of Fry and Laurie – The Complete Collection… Every Bit!
- Black Lagoon Vol. 2
- The Bourne Files 3-Disc Collection: Includes “The Bourne Identity,” “The Bourne Supremacy” and a disc of bonus features.
- Classic Musicals From The Dream Factory, Vol. 2: Includes “The Pirate,” “Words And Music,” “The Belle of New York,” “Royal Wedding,” “That Midnight Kiss,” “The Toast of New Orleans” and “That’s Dancing!”
- Classic Super Heroes Collection: Again, no listings. The cast list includes numerous people best known for movie serials, so I’m betting that’s what it contains.
- The Contract
- The Creature From The Black Lagoon: A horror classic we reviewed here.
- The Crow: Stairway To Heaven – The Complete Series
- Decrepit Crypt of Nightmares 50 Movie Pack: Again, no details.
- The Doris Day and Rock Hudson Comedy Collection: Includes “Pillow Talk,” “Lover Come Back” and “Send Me No Flowers.”
- Elvis Presley MGM Movie Legends Collection: “Clambake,” “Frankie and Johnny,” “Follow That Dream,” “Kid Galahad.”
- Ergo Proxy 5: Terra Incognita
- The Exterminating Angels
- Frank Sinatra MGM Movie Legends Collection: Includes “The Manchurian Candidate,” “Guys and Dolls,” “The Pride and the Passion,” “A Hole in the Head” and “Kings Go Forth.”
- Green Gree, Complete Collection: I personally prefer “Red Green.”
- The Grindhouse Experience 20 Film Set
- Hard Boiled (Two-Disc Ultimate Edition): Very tempting, as the Criterion Collection edition went out of print before I could track it down.
- Harrison Ford Triple Feature: Includes “Witness,” “Patriot Games” and “What Lies Beneath.”
- Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, Vol. 3
- The Host
- Ivan’s Childhood: Criterion Collection: That “Criterion” stamp is guaranteed quality.
- Jean De Florette / Manon of the Spring (MGM World Films)
- The Jesse Stone Film Collection: Starring Tom Selleck, visibly post-Magnum, and yet I’ve never heard of them. When did these come out?
- John Grisham’s The Rainmaker
- Land of the Giants – The Full Series (The Giant Collection): The Irwin Allen show.
- Les Enfants Terribles: Criterion Collection: Frequently referenced in the “Metal Gear Solid” series.
- Live Free or Die
- The Monster Squad (Two-Disc 20th Anniversary Edition)
- The Naoyuki Tsuji Animation Collection
- Night Screams 50 Movie Pack: Again, user comments fill in the title list.
- The Number 23 (Unrated Infinifilm Edition)
- Philip Marlowe: Private Eye
- The Pirate: An early and hard to find Gene Kelly movie, also in the “Dream Factory” box set above.
- Raise the Red Lantern (MGM World Films): I’ve heard good things, but haven’t seen it myself.
- The Real McCoys: Complete Season 1
- The Secrets of Isis – The Complete Series: The spinoff from “Shazam!”
- Shadow Puppets: Starring Tony Todd, Jolene Blalock and James Marsters.
- Star Trek Fan Collective – Captain’s Log: Includes 10 episodes selected by fans, and 5 more selected by the actors playing the various captains.
- Star Trek Fan Collective – The Collectives: A box set of the previous box sets.
- Stargate SG-1 – Season 10: The final season broke records for the longievity of North American science fiction, which sounds a lot less impressive once you’ve heard the record that “Doctor Who” set. You can combine all seasons of all Star Trek franchises and still not beat the Doctor Who record!
- To Live (MGM World Films)
- Todd McFarlane’s Spawn: Animated Collection
- The Ultimate Underdog Collection Volume 1
- The Ultimate Underdog Collection Volume 2
- The Ultimate Underdog Collection Volume 3
- Weeds – Season Two
- The Woody Woodpecker and Friends Classic Cartoon Collection: This is an extremely tempting item.
- Zodiac
Now, the Blu-Ray releases:
Here are the HD DVD releases:
- The Bourne Identity
- The Contract
- Deep Purple: Live At Montreux 2006
- The Host
- In Good Company
- Nutty Professor 2: The Klumps
- Out For Justice
- Purple Rain
- Santana: Hymns for Peace – Live at Montreux 2004
- Scent of a Woman
- Streets of Fire
Finally, the pick of the week. There’s a lot of great stuff, but I have to go with the Captain’s Log collection. It’s the first collective I’ve been very tempted to pick up. There’s some great stuff coming next week, too.
Star Trek
I never buy any Trek DVDs, they’ve historically been QUITE overpriced, and I don’t care for entire seasons of episodic television. The fan collectives are trying to make me buy Enterprise, and no, that’s just not gonna happen.
I’m waiting for the MPAA’s older overlords to die so I can FINALLY buy trek by the episode, iTunes-style.
Re: Star Trek
you mean like in iTunes?
Ok, so it’s not everything, I couldn’t find any Next generation for example. And it isn’t easy to watch them on TV (unless you have appleTV, or an iPod Video, or whatever).
But, progress is being made, yay!
Monster Squad
*kick*
Awesome movie :)

Re: Monster Squad
I have been waiting for this to be released on DVD for ages – I just hope it holds up to my memories.
