Star Trek XI: Christmas 2008

Startrek.com reports that the next Star Trek movie is presently scheduled for a Christmas Day 2008 release. Zachary Quinto, best known as Sylar from Heroes, will be playing a younger Spock; Leonard Nimoy will apparently also reprise his role. If this means we get time-travel paradoxes, I will swear off Trek for good this time.

  1. I’ve got a sinking feeling about this…
…my Star Trek appreciation cortex is dripping out through the ends of my toes.

  2. Swearing off of Trek
I swore off of Trek so many times, I have lost count. The problem is that I keep hoping they will do it right one of these times.

But this time: "This project is separate from the previously rumored script developed by Eric Jendresen and overseen by Rick Berman. The former Star Trek producer is not involved in this project."

      There is hope!

  3. Old trek
    Kirk, Spock, McCoy. No

The old films were okay, but I’m afraid I just don’t want to see them back at Starfleet Academy. I won’t spend money on it. That time is past.

Move on. New Trek. New ideas. Please.

Remember who you’re talking to. There hasn’t been a new idea out of Hollywood in some time.

I mean they’re remaking Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Again.

They re-did Hairspray, which not like it needed that again.

They re-did Caddyshack and gave it some ‘soul’

yet people still go to see them. Moooooooo.

After Enterprise, I don’t see how this can’t be a fuck up.

  4. Cautiously optimistic
I’m going to hold out for a flashback, where Shatner and Nimoy are reminiscing in a cameo at the beginning, and then the movie actually starts. Although it is possible to do a good time travel story, their track record isn’t so hot there, and I think the real killer is it would cost too much to have them actually have significant roles.

  5. at this point…
    at this point… who knows.
If it’s a flashback I don’t mind. I understand the need/want to put a classic trek face up there for marketing, but time travel is unacceptable. Zachary has a distinctive face and seems like a good actor, this could be really good.

And of course, Berman isn’t there on this one. That alone is enough to give me some hope.
