I was camping and watching the Perseids meteor shower. That was a show, and it’s expected to be better tonight. Consider ignoring television and the Web tonight, getting yourself away from light pollution, and watching the skies.

Unfortunately the only shower visible here is the wet kind. The weather here in the UK is almost always bad when something interesting is happening in the sky.

We were lying on a stretch of the miles of beach along Lake Huron. At least two other groups had set up within hearing range, either on the shore or a boat. We couldn’t see them, but one group somewhere in the dark cheered wildly every time a really good meteor appeared.
