Star Wars Episode II trailers not good. :(

quecojones writes, I just heard about the new teaser trailer for Episode II (Mystery) and decided to try to view it. Bad idea. :( I went over to the Star Wars web site and learned that I had to have my Episode I DVD in my DVD-ROM drive and go to dvd.starwars.com to view it. I did and the download started OK (The DVD in the DVD- ROM drive and QuickTime v5.02 is required). About halfway through the trailer, my browser (IE v6.0) crashed. :( I have QuickTime Pro v5.02 installed and I had the DVD in my DVD-ROM drive… WTF?!?!? Tomorrow we’re supposed to be able to view the 2+ minute trailer of Episode II that plays before the Harry Potter movie… I’m not very optimistic about being able to view it. Is it just me or are other people having this problem? I’d check it myself, but the DVD-ROM is in the Linux box, so I doubt I can even try. I will be at Harry Potter on Saturday, though.

  1. Finally got them!
    I finally got them. :)

I got Choices and Mystery by searching for them with Morpheus. I got Fobidden Love from Apple‘s Star Wars site. I found out about it from this article on Slashdot.

Man, that was uncool. :( It should’ve worked with the DVD the way it was supposed to and the fact that it’s only supposd to work well with Windows sucks. I know they have a workaround for the Mac, but what about Linux?

PS: I should have come up with a better title for the original post. The problem is obviously something to do with the DVD-ROM feature of the DVD… some people could get the wrong idea from the post’s title… sorry.

      • Re: Finally got them!

… and which one is “Choices?” I don’t think I’ve seen that one…

Choices is the one that’s like a little slide show (just a few images fading in and out) with a little bit of music. With each image there appears a little bit of text that moves around and is, except for the last one IIRC, a question.

I saw it on the Star Wars web site last night and downloaded it with Morpheus. It was the only on I could see from the web site (it didn’t require the DVD to be in the drive). It’s about 8.5MB… wierd that they removed it.

Just do a search on one of the file sharing networks for “wars choices”, if you use “star wars choices” or “star wars trailer” you’ll get a ton of other stuff.

  2. which trailer? :-)
So far, we’ve got “Breathing,” mentioned here
    previously
, “Mystery” (which as a Linux user and non-DVD-owner I may
never get to see), and “Forbidden Love” (as before, the large version
requires the pay-to-play version of QuickTime, but the
    medium
    and
    small
versions are okay). Anyone want to make wild random guesses at what the
    next one will be called?

The betting starts at 50:1 against “Llamas,” 20:1 against “Samuel L.
Jackson Kicking Lots Of Ass” and 30:1 against “My God Yoda Is OLD”.

And a quick tidbit to make the Linux people happy: the movies play just
    peachy with CrossOver.
They’re very close to getting my twenty bucks, and I’d have to kill a
homeless man to get twenty bucks these days.

they DID get my 20 bucks, and for good reason…I LOVE finally being able to view quicktime and shockwave! and that pop-up screen is just annoying enough for me to be willing to pay to get rid of it. wahoo!! I was VERY impressed with Forbidden Love…I can’t WAIT to see the next movie. Anakin’s character development looks quite impressive.

Most Important Bit: We finally get to know where Princes Leia’s (sp?) danish hairdo came from. :)

You mean it’s genetic? Ewww! ;-)

  3. No wonder there are so few Jedi…
A couple of notes on the new trailer:

    – Maybe it’s just the low-rez postage stamp effect, but it looks to me like Lucas picked the most visually unappealing actor possible for his “romantic lead” (Anakin). Of course, I never understood Richard Gere’s appeal either…

    – What? No sex for Jedis?! Dude, I’m changing my religion!
Seriously, though, what’s up with that? Come to think of it, have we ever seen any female Jedis (official ones)? Are Jedis just an all-male geek club (like their fans ;) or what?

Hm. Legit question. There was a female Yoda-alike in the Jedi Council scene from SW1, I think. Mara Jade (from Timothy Zahn’s novels and beyond) also might count, though it’s questionable whether she counts as “official.” (Are we taking the hardest line, which is “only movies are canon,” or do we have some leeway there?)

As long as we don’t include
Splinter of the Mind’s Eye in there, I’ll
        call the books canon.

      • Re: No wonder there are so few Jedi…
I was more referring to “official” as in a formally ordained Member of the Jedi Order. IIRC, Mara Jade was never an ‘official’ Jedi in this sense, at least not until after the Skywalker Reformation ;-) Of course, you’re right about the council; some of those guys were alien enough that I couldn’t tell you what gender they might be.

You’re right about the female Jedi on the council. She was there in E1. Also, just to add, in the d20 Star Wars RPG book the example chacater for a couple of the Jedi classes is female. I would liken it to a Priest/Nun kind of thing.

Of course, why Anakin turned makes complete sense to me now. Hell, if Obi-Wan told me I couldn’t have sex with Natalie Portman, I’d go Dark side too!

    • What has he done !
I just watched the forbidden love trailer. Either I am getting old, or George has gone and turned an epic adventure movie series into some twisted kind of teen-love flick. EP1 wasn’t that hot, but, UGH this looks terrible ! It was a strain to just watch the trailer through.

Also is it just me or does it seem strange that Anakin seems to have aged considerably since EP 1 while Amidala looks the same age ?

      • Re: What has he done !

It’s not just you. The problem is
that Natalie Portman looked older than her character
in Episode I. In that one, Anakin was 9 (played by an
8 year old) and Amidala was 14 (played by a 17 year
old.) I don’t know how much time has passed in
between movies, but it’s probably no more than 10
years. (It’s at least 5, so I’d guess in the 7-10
year range.) They probably should have cast a
different person as Amidala in the first movie to keep
things a little more visually consistent.

You mean out side of Lukes Sister, who they would have made a Jedi if he had died.

That’s true, but even if there were sexist policies in training Jedi, I think circumstances would have convinced them to make an exception at that point. (After all, she was the only chance left.)
