The more I think about it the more I think having Nimoy in there is a mistake. He’s a swell guy and a fine actor I’m sure, but one of the largest problems Trek has is baggage and Nimoy is baggage. I think the trek universe needs a completely new set of characters. Heck, they could even make a character driven movie completely from the side of the original Klingons. That would be far more interesting and would allow for cameos and glimpses of the human side (from the alien perspective) as a tie in.

Either way, the universe is there and established. we like sci-fi, but the characters and stories are what keeps people going NOT the fact that it has the Star Trek name. If the characters are lousy or if they rely on a single name or if they rely on some effects it’s just one of a million crappy movies.

I’d love to see a movie (mini-series or direct to DVD, like B5) showing the genesis of the Borg.

That would be pretty sweet if done right. I imagine it would be something of an organic being (like a human) who is so fanatical about integrating tech into him/herself that a religion or cult of sorts is started. It would take time to completely take over the population but after time and a few massive data losses I could easily see a race of borg who don’t really know where they came from (the culture, "just is") and cease to procreate like a biological being.
