New Trek XI rumours

Dark Nexus writes, Ain’t It Cool News has some new rumours about how continuity is going to be handled. The bad news is it sounds like a bad time travel episode of Enterprise. The good news is it also sounds like some of the better time travel episodes of the original series.

  1. .
There have been several noteable time travel episodes in the franchise. Voyager, for example, had a great time travel episode with Harry being rescued in the far future then attempting to go back in time to alter things to save the lives of the crew.

I haven’t given up hope yet!

I enjoyed the one where Red from That 70s show was on that time ship thing changing things trying to get his wife back

I’d go so far as to say most of the time travel episodes in Star Trek were good, up until later Voyager stuff. Sadly, the episode you mention was probably one of the last good time travel episodes they did so the recent track record isn’t that good.

  2. Me too
I heard a rumor that this move is going to really suck.

I have utterly NO hope that this will be a good movie, none.

I heard a rumor that this move is going to really suck.

A rumor? Really? A rumor from someone from the future? Or perhaps a rumor from someone with the magic ability to turn future subjective into present objective? Or are you implying that they’re making it suck on purpose?

Don’t let me spoil your pessimism party, but I’m pretty sure even the worse thing they could come up with would likely be light years ahead of the 80% drivel in theaters and on TV. Bad Trek or American Idol? For me the choice is clear.

Well, there’s just this trend – odd numbered Trek movies *SUCK*. ST:TMP? The pajama party, anyone? ST:TSFS? Ok, so they made The Search For More Money before Mel Brooks could get the funding for Spaceballs II. ST:FF – "Why does God need a spaceship?" Let’s just forget *THAT* one ever existed. ST:Generations – Ok, it made money, because *EVERYONE* wanted to see Shatner die finally! Otherwise, pretty much sucked. Oddly enough, ST:Insurrection, I actually *LIKED*! But I’ll admit, the general consensus is – it sucked.

However, I have to say that all of the movies after the original crew were done were less than good. ST:First Contact sucked golfballs through a water hose, I can’t actually say I’ve seen ST:Nemesis, but I’m told it sucked bowling balls through a soda straw…

I’m betting on Ceres or Pallas through a carbon nano-tube for ST:XI.

Man, I sure do hate group think. I make up my own mind about everything, from politics, to religion to movies. I can’t remember a Star Trek movie that I actually didn’t like. Granted, some were better than others, and if I were fixated on continuity, I am sure I would have found reasons to dislike more. I liked ST: Nemesis and Insurrection. Basically, I have ONE goal when going to see a movie. To be entertained. Faithfulness (where appropriate, yellow spandex in the X-Men movie – no thanks) to the source material is a definite bonus, but I understand both artistic license and the necessity of changing some things when moving medium.

In short, I am waiting to see the movie myself. Odds are I will like it. I will know after I see it, not before.

I had really never thought of that, but … it would explain the last few Star Trek movies.

And really, they’re making a movie here, it SHOULD be way better than TV.

My choice, with respect to Trek, would be for them to let it fade away into history as it is. They are beating a rotting corpse of a horse here, its long past just being dead. Maybe they should try some new, unique science fiction series for a change. Abrams is sure capable of that as well.

What I’m really saying is I really wouldn’t care if Trek stays gone for a long time and I’m not going to be going to see this new film in theaters its opening weekend, if I even see it in a theater at all. I have yet to even watch the last Star Trek movie the whole way through.

All in all Nemesis burned me out for Star Trek movies, Voyager burned me out for TV series, but only temporarily, Enterprise burned me out for TV series of Trek for good.

I really could care less to see more Star Trek right now. Abrams could put his time to better use somewhere else in my opinion.

To modify a common phase some, "its not pessimism if it always sucks."

Hear hear! There’s a lot of good science fiction that Abrams could be directing his talents to: Ringworld series; Mote in God’s Eye (easily a few good movies / spinoffs there! ;-) ; Miles Vorkorsigan (I – X at least)

  3. Rumour, wild specualtion
    What’s the diff?

As far as I could gather from official statements about the flick, Spock will be remembering his past, not, er, rewriting it so he can make an alternate timeline… gah.

I’d rather have no new trek than more prequel follies. Han shot first, it’s dead Jim.
