Weekly Comics Discussion – September 5, 2007

The complete list is, as always, available here.

Dark Horse Comics

  • BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER – Brian K. Vaughan’s Faith-centric arc begins here. I’ll wait until the whole arc is done before I write the review.

DC Comics

  • BLACK CANARY WEDDING PLANNER
  • COUNTDOWN 34
  • INFINITY INC #1
  • JACK KIRBYS FOURTH WORLD OMNIBUS VOL 2 HC
  • METAL MEN #2 (OF 8)
  • SUPERGIRL #21
  • Y THE LAST MAN #58

Image Comics

  • MADAME MIRAGE #2 – A reprint of the well received first issue is also available.

Marvel Comics

  • AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #544 – “One More Day,” written by J. Michael Straczynski and pencilled by Joe Quesada, begins here and runs through all three main continuity titles. Once this four issue story is done, “Spectacular Spider-Man” and “Friendly Neighbourhood Spider-Man” will end, and “Amazing Spider-Man” will ship three times a month.
  • ANNIHILATION CONQUEST WRAITH #3 (OF 4)
  • CAPTAIN AMERICA CHOSEN #1 (OF 6) – This was originally meant to be called “Captain America: The End,” but the title was changed to avoid confusing this series with what’s going on in Cap’s current title.
  • EXILES #98
  • INCREDIBLE HULK #110 – The last issue in the “World War Hulk” crossover. I’ll review all five issues by the end of the issue.
  • IRON MAN ENTER MANDARIN #1 (OF 6) – This is basically retelling the first issue with the Mandarin, and should hit TPB format just in time for the movie next May.
  • NEW WARRIORS #4 – Part of “The Initiative,” and pretty interesting in its own right.
  • SHANNA SHE-DEVIL SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST #2 (OF 4)
  • SHE-HULK 2 #21 – If memory serves, this is the last Dan Slott issue.
  • SUPER VILLAIN TEAM UP MODOKS 11 #3 (OF 5)
  • UNCANNY X-MEN #490
  • WOLVERINE #57

  1. She-Hulk

This very geeky (and somewhat confusing, but I haven’t followed the title) issue features an explanation for sloppy continuity and questionable choices that have occurred at times at Marvel. Whether it amounts to an official explanation is another matter.
