Is it just me or is Bufferine about two episodes away from getting herself a costume and a secret identity?

Maybe it’s just me but the whole "I wanna be a superhero" thing from Claire seems a bit forced. Considering that it’s been, what, 3-6 months since:

      – Her mother and brother were taken hostage and nearly killed
      – She herself was hunted and nearly killed by Syler
      – She was forced to leave her family for a time to protect both herself and her family
      – Her father was nearly killed multiple times

I know teenagers are by nature stupid and impetuous but still, one would think Clair would be happy to keep her head down.

Also I thought the Lost Time effect with the Hatian/Suresh was pretty awesome.

Also also, the "mystery man" killing off Sulu and friends. Assuming it’s the same individual so far we have seen that he is either invulnerable/durable or has healing powers, and also can can infiltrate a police station, attack Mrs. Petrelli and possibly disappear at will (or perform some kind of remote attack on her). Another Syler/Peter Jack of All Trades character? I certainly hope not. I’m just having this horrible mental picture of Peter and Syler having to "team up" at the end of this season to defeat the ultimate bad guy.

        Sylar is dead…
I’m pretty sure the bad guy is another power-sponge, and that the south-American chica is the one with the power to defeat him.

Side note, when did Peter absorb Kitty Pride’s power?

Haven’t we already seen Sylar in the previews/opening/closing scenes briefly? He’s sitting on a beach somewhere asking who he is or where he is or something like that?

Peter got the phasing powers from DL.

            • Re: identity

              Not "who": "when".

It’s a passive power, and Peter was arguably close enough to DL in the plaza.

Passive, eh? That explains why they both fell through the floor, right through the Earth’s crust, and after a lot of trans-magmatic yoyoing eventually got stuck in the center of the Earth’s core, then.

I think he means that Peter’s power is passive (say that five times fast) and he would have collected it during the plaza seen at the finale of season 1.

But he didn’t get an earful when he met Sylar after he ate the super-hearing lady’s brain…

I was under the impression that a power had to be expressed in his presence before he absorbed it.

There’s an inconsistency here. That makes me an annoyed geek.

Peter had dreams of flying long before he knew his brother could do it. In fact, he was sure he could fly, not his brother. IIRC, Claude explained this as his subconscious integrating the idea of him being able to fly after absorbing the power. I believe Suresh also postulated that he was the real subject zero, who had the capacity to do any of the powers, and that being near those who had one gave him the nudge to activate it. The next logical step is him learning to activate powers without outside influence at all. Also, he started having problems with Theodore’s problems as soon as he got close enough – Theodore didn’t start obviously radiating at that time.

I’m wondering if Peter can pick up abilities that Sylar’s absorbed. I don’t recall any evidence of that yet. It may become a moot point if he can just fully activate at some point.

Here’s my list of people that Peter has been exposed to that have special powers:
                      Sulu (unknown)
                      Ma Petrelli (unknown)
                      Mr. Deveaux (unknown)
                      Claire (regen)
Sylar (ability to identify powers/see how things work)
                      Molly (location)
                      Hiro (manipulate space-time)
                      DL (phasing)
                      Issac (see future)
                      Parkman (telepathy)
                      Micah (communicate with computers)
                      Nathan (fly)
                      Niki (super strength)
                      Claude (invisibility)
Theodore (radiation bursts, multiple modes – ‘hot’ and ‘cold’)

Peter’s being set up to have a whole pile of abilities – the next question is seeing how he accesses these powers he’s been exposed to, but doesn’t know about. I expect you’ll see a lot of ‘intuitive’ uses, then refined to conscious use, not unlike the phasing. Hopefully they don’t turn him into some god-like being where they throw him into the mix whenever a cool new ability shows up, and he uses all of them to save the day. Boring. And that doesn’t even take into account being able to time travel, locate already deceased people, teleport near them, go invisible, and absorb their powers without altering past events.

          Sylar is dead…

          That’s a bold stance to take. ;)

I’m pretty sure the bad guy is another power-sponge, and that the south-American chica is the one with the power to defeat him.

I’d say he’s also the one Molly set us up for at the end of season one, the one more terrifying than Sylar.

Side note, when did Peter absorb Kitty Pride’s power?

Speaking of X-Men (and how can one not?), Kitty, and thus Colossus, does anyone else think this virus stinks a bit too much of the legacy virus?

They’re definitely showing their comic book roots, that’s for sure ;)

I’ve decided that Claire is not very bright, though very good-hearted. Oh, and then they try to make her knowledgeable at school, just to mess with me. This opinion began being formed during the garbage disposal scene back in season one, and hasn’t really been contradicted.

My guess is that what I consider signs of her airheadedness are someone’s idea of teenage behavior, and that’s why they have no problem portraying her as academically accomplished.

  2. Peter’s powers
Claude taught Peter to control his absorbed powers by concentrating on how the person with the powers made him feel. Before that, Peter’s powers were mostly reflexive. That accounts for him defending himself in the shipping container and maybe even for phasing out of his bindings, but to decisively attack someone, with what we understand of how his powers work, Peter would have to remember both who he is and how to control his powers.

Speaking of Peter and electricity, were we shown in Season 1 where he got these or is it still a "yet to be answered" thing? I don’t recall him ever having those powers.

Could be one he picked up from Sylar?

The only mention I remember is in the weekly comics on the web site, but even that was in the alternate future after the bomb went off, and not what really happened. I haven’t kept up on the comics over the summer, but it’s possible they mention it there.

I just wrote it off as radiation. At least in the bar, it seemed more of a pulse than an electric arc.

Well, that’s how he first learned to do it, but that doesn’t mean that he has to think about it that way now.

When I first learned to play guitar, I had to think "ok, index finger, G string, first fret, middle finger, A string, second fret, ring finger, D string, second fret", but now I think "E major" (if I’m even putting a name to it in my head at all). My understanding is that amnesia usually doesn’t affect learned skills – for example Clive Wearing still remembes how to play piano, though he doesn’t remember learning how.

Also, exploding probably puts a man through many changes. :-)

Hadn’t heard about him – man what an terrible thing to happen.

I knew about him, but I didn’t know it was a coldsore that caused it.

He’s not dead. As a matter of fact, at this very moment he is just waking from a nice nap.

I know, but the enciphelatis that wiped half his brain could have killed him instead. It happens, and I didn’t know that. I’m still freaked about it. I’m safe (for now), but I know plenty of people with cold sores… it never occured to me before that those could kill them.
