The New K.I.T.T. Revealed: Shelby Mustang GT500KR

Ford apparently wants the kind of publicity GM got with Transformers. Take a look at the all-new Knight Industries Two-Thousand (or is it Three-Thousand now).

Can’t really say I’m excited. I guess K.I.T.T. will always be a Trans-Am in my mind.

  1. Where are you K.I.T.T.?
NO NO NO NO! That is -NOT- K.I.T.T.! Doesn’t even look remotely like K.I.T.T.! The remake is most likely going to appeal to the fans of the original series, and this is not the way to go about it.

What car do you propose they use? The trans-am is no more. If they used the camaro they be attacked for copying bumblebee. Now you could say they’d be attacked for copying barricade, but he wasn’t the main character.

I think its pretty cool, but I am bummed that the video didn’t show any "cylon lights". KITT’s got to have the cylon lights, its a must.

  2. been there…
Didn’t they already try a Knight Rider remake? Had 4 cars or something. Was god awful if I remember it right.

      yeah.
and this one – according to the synopsis – has 3. and kitt can shapeshift.
and, reading the synopsis through…well…let’s just say this looks like it’s going to be just as god awful.
I’m sad to say that it looks like I’m going to skip it.
life’s too short to watch bad tv.

Actually, Tivo figured out that my favorite show growing up was Knight Rider, and I saw a rerun of the original show. My shattering conclusion: Guys, even the original series was God awful. The episode was something about evil Bible salesmen. Really. Bible salesmen. And the rims on the Trans Am look fairly ridiculous now. Rather than recycle the old shows of my youth (please let me cling to the fantasy that they were good), let’s try filming stories that are cool by today’s standards — not the standards of decades long past. Let’s do some stuff by people writing today like Cory Doctorow or Charles Stross, or even people from decades past who haven’t had the benefit of CG like Anne McCaffery — isn’t it time for a Pern series — before we make more crap out of stuff that was crap to begin with.

  3. product placement
I guess with Heroes owned by Nissan and Alias no longer on the air to sell Ford, we get this. KITT was more brain than brawn, so the Mustang (as much as I like the redesign) is by far the wrong car.

      So the ’82 Trans-Am T-top was a "smart" car? :)

I’ve been playing "spot the sponsor" on shows for years, but lately it’s not fun because it’s so damned easy. We might as well get rid of commercials altogether and just have the show’s characters slip into complete in-show commercials like they used to do in the radio days.

  4. Lots of negativity when no one has seen a single episode yet!
Yea, sure, theres a lot of existing evidence that they will likely screw this one up, but I am definitely going to give it a shot. I am keeping an open mind until I see a couple of episodes. Also, I like the car. Its different, and that isn’t always a bad thing. Now, if they had made it an F-150, then we would have had a problem!

  5. K.I.T.T. was almost a mustang originally
It’s been a while, so no references…. but I remember reading that Ford was originally approached about providing a Mustang to be KITT. They thought it a silly idea, said no, and so the Trans-Am became KITT – and was part of the reason the Trans-Am became a major competitor to the Mustang.

    What I remember. YMMV.
