Where in the Star Trek timeline is this one supposed to occur?

I believe it’s Kirk, Spock, etc first mission, right out of the academy

  1. At it again with the viral marketing …
Click on the red dot next to "under construction." I have no clue how to reveal anything else.

Adjust the sliders. Around 123 in camera 2, 955 in camera 3, 281 in camera 4. I can’t find anything for camera 1.

  2. Captian Pike?
So, Kirk and Spock will take the Enterprise out for its first spin eh?

Yep, I’ve felt all along that they were going to totally scrap the old cannon. I’m beginning to get more and more sure that
    I’m right.

Mind you, changes in what we know would only mean that a something was done as part of the temporal war.

No no no no no. Please no. If you’re right, this movie will suck worse than I thought.

I can’t speak for Starfleet, but the US Navy does not give away command positions to officers who are fresh out of the Naval Academy. And for the larger ships, you won’t get command until you’ve got significant rank (e.g., Captain).

      • Starfleet Academy : Animal House
Maybe they’re gonna hijack the Big E as a frat prank. Spock is onboard after hours programming the computer for extra credit, forced to go along for the joyride…

  3. Silly nit
I didn’t think that Constitution class starships could land. Isn’t that why every movie has shown them being constructed in space dock?

I know, I know. Why am I expecting consistency or canon out of this frachise?

well, all seafaring vessels start on land…

hell, all trek vessels could have been built planetside…

  4. Sci-fi fans
For a bunch of sci-fi fans, you folks sure don’t seem to be up on the latest info about this movie.

    To answer some questions:

Kirk is quite unlikely to be the first commander of the Enterprise in this movie. Captain Pike is in the cast so while that isn’t a guarantee, but it certainly leads one to believe that he might be the captain. And for those who say that Captain April was the first captain. That isn’t canon, at least from on-screen source material.

Now, about the construction of the ship on the ground. You really should read the interview with Robert Orci at http://trekmovie.com/2008/01/19/interview-orci-answers-questions-about-new-trek-trailer/ which is actually quite inspiring. His knowledge is better than most fans and he has no intention of messing up what is true canon.

The plaque on the Enterprise says, "San Francisco". I’m pretty sure that San Francisco is firmly attached to the planet, and isn’t going to detach itself any time soon. So I don’t see how any of that implies in any way that the Enterprise was built entirely in space. The only reason that everyone thinks that it was built in space is because we see the ship in space dock in many of the movies.

Precisely. No where was it ever stated the Enterprise wasn’t constructed on the ground. Further, there’s nothing really preventing it from being constructed on the ground. Build it, then lift it off with anti-grav units or something. It doesn’t haev to be able to land to be build on the ground. Being lifted into space is far different than being able to enter an atmosphere.

That’s true. I am actively trying not to get any hopes up for this movie and am not at all actively seeking out information.

I just have a really bad feeling that this movie will be really bad.

Nemisis and Enterprise combined to break any hope I had of the Star Trek franchise getting back in stride. And a reboot of the original series is _not_ going to change my feelings on that. This movie will have to be 100% better than I think it will be to get me back to caring about Star Trek. That said, I will watch it on DVD when it comes out, but I’m not really interested in seeing this in the theatre.
