Weekly Comics Discussion – March 26, 2008

The last few “Secret Invasion Infiltration” titles hit this week, before the full blown event hits next week. You can see this week’s full list at this URL, and keep up to date on our Secret Invasion coverage here.

Dark Horse Comics

  • APOCALYPSE NERD – I’ve heard nothing about this series, but the trade is tempting due to the title alone.
  • RETURN O/T GREMLINS #1 (OF 3)
  • STAR WARS KNIGHTS OF OLD REPUBLIC #26 VECTOR PART 2
  • USAGI YOJIMBO #110

DC Comics

  • ALL STAR SUPERMAN #10
  • BLUE BEETLE #25 – The reviews (here and elsewhere) are a whole heck of a lot better than the sales on this title. I’m going to strongly consider giving this a try if my local comic shop has copies. Sadly, with sales like this, most shops are probably stocking the “fulfill preorder” quantities only, making it tough to give it a try this month.
  • COUNTDOWN LORD HAVOK AND THE EXTREMISTS (OF 6)
  • COUNTDOWN SPECIAL ECLIPSO 80 PAGE GIANT
  • COUNTDOWN TO ADVENTURE #8 (OF 8)
  • COUNTDOWN TO FINAL CRISIS 5
  • FREDDY VS JASON VS ASH (OF 6)
  • GREEN LANTERN #29 – Still rocking after the Sinestro Corps War.
  • JACK OF FABLES #21
  • NIGHTWING THE LOST YEAR TP
  • SHOWCASE PRESENTS BOOSTER GOLD TP VOL 01 – One of the most recent series to get Showcase Presents treatment.
  • WILDSTORM REVELATIONS (OF 6)

Dynamite Entertainment Comics

  • BATTLESTAR GALACTICA ORIGINS #4

Image Comics

  • SAVAGE DRAGON #135
  • WANTED HC DIRECTORS CUT ED (MR) – I’ve heard fantastic things about this, but everyone I know who read this before seeing the movie trailers hated what they saw. My plan is to see the movie first, and read this second. That way, I may be able to enjoy both; it sounds like I won’t enjoy the movie if I’m already familiar with the source material.

Marvel Comics

  • BLACK PANTHER #35
  • DAREDEVIL #106 – The lack of crossovers with other titles has translated into a lack of attention given to this title, but it deserves that attention. Brubaker’s doing a great job.
  • GHOST RIDER TP TRAIL OF TEARS
  • IRON MAN DOOMQUEST PREM HC
  • MARVEL ATLAS #2 (OF 2)
  • MIGHTY AVENGERS #11
  • MS MARVEL #25 – A Secret Invasion crossover with two covers available.
  • NEW AVENGERS #39 – A Secret Invasion crossover.
  • NEW WARRIORS #10 – Will cross over with Secret Invasion later this year.
  • SHE-HULK 2 #27 – Will cross over with Secret Invasion later this year.
  • SPIDER-MAN PREM HC ONE MORE DAY – I’m listing this so you’re aware of it. That doesn’t necessarily mean I’m recommending it.
  • ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR #52
  • ULTIMATE HUMAN #3 (OF 4) – This has been a lot of fun thus far.
  • ULTIMATE IRON MAN II #4 (OF 5)
  • ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #120
  • ULTIMATE X-MEN #92
  • WORLD WAR HULK AFTERSMASH DAMAGE CONTROL #3 (OF 3) – This series will get reviewed this weekend.
  • X-MEN LEGACY #209

  1. How did Black Panther
ever rate the coverage he now gets?
He was like a 5th tier char for decades.
And all the sudden he’s a big shot major char and married to 1st tier char.
Seriously he’s quite possibly the lamest char in Marvel’s stable.
He’s like the gimp Daredevil who is the gimp Spiderman…

I don’t get it either. I started collecting for Civil War, stuck around for the Fantastic Four, and will stick around again for Secret Invasion. That’s mainly because I like having the complete story for the events, and not because I’m particularly enjoying the title itself.

  2. Dark Wraith of Shannara

New York Times bestselling author Terry Brooks’ most popular fantasy series is making its graphic novel debut this week, courtesy of Del Rey, a division of the Random House Publishing Group.

Terry Brooks, along with writer Robert Place Napton and artist Edwin David, bring readers a brand-new adventure set in the bestselling Shannara universe in the form of an original graphic novel. Dark Wraith of Shannara is set a few years after the events of The Wishsong of Shannara and the Shannara short story “Indomitable”, which first appeared in the Robert Silverberg-edited Legends II together with other short stories by a number of noteworthy fantasy authors.

Sounds like a good read to me.
