Del Toro to Direct The Hobbit (Officially)

It’s official, the papers have been signed. Now we just sit back and wait for 2011.

Now that it’s all real, I’m starting to wonder if Del Toro is the right choice. Don’t get me wrong, love his work. Visually stunning and…different. What does this mean for Middle Earth? Opinions?

I think Del Toro has a very appealing sense of visual style, and more importantly a sense of magic. It’s been a while since I’ve read The Hobbit, but I think a central component of the book is the Sensawunda. That’s definitely something Del Toro can deliver.

I expect Del Toro will do well with The Hobbit. The book itself has a very different tone from Lord of the Rings, and a different director seems appropriate.

Before …Rings, Peter Jackson was best-known for this film.
