Stan Winston, Visual FX Titan Dies at 62

People in Hollywood come and go. A select few change the face of movie making. Among these was Stan Winston.

You see kids, back before CG, people had to make monsters, aliens, demons, and robots by hand. That’s what Stan did. Even after CG took over Hollywood, he and his team were responsible for some of the most detailed work the industry had ever seen in both animatronics and make-up.

Tonight I raise my popcorn bucket in salute and watch Jurassic Park. Maybe all three. Because Stan deserves no less.

  1. A legend passes
I would describe Stan Winston as the greatest single innovator of special effects movies have ever seen. While George Lucas has probably driven teams of people to produce more innovations, Winston did a lot more as an individual. This is a major loss.
