Summer is here, and the video manufacturers have found that few people stay home to watch movies on the July 4 weekend, so don’t expect great stuff until next week.
First, the DVD releases:
- 30 Days: The Complete Second Season
- The American Film Theater Complete 14 Film Collection: Kino video always does a great job with this sort of thing. Includes “The Iceman Cometh,” “A Delicate Balance,” “The Man In The Glass Booth,” “Rhinoceros,” “Butley,” “The Maids,” “Luther,” “In Celebration,” “Three Sisters,” “The Homecoming,” “Galileo,” “Lost In The Stars,” “Philadelphia, Here I Come!” and “Jacques Brel Is Alive And Well And Living In Paris.”
- Batman – The Movie (Special Edition)
- Blue Seed, Vol. 3
- City of Men
- The Closer – The Complete Third Season
- Desert Punk: Box Set
- Drillbit Taylor (Unrated Extended Survival Edition)
- Drillbit Taylor (Widescreen Edition)
- French Postcards
- Gakuen Heaven Collection
- Get Smart’s Bruce and Lloyd Out Of Control: I haven’t seen the new “Get Smart” myself, but every review I’ve read says these two steal every scene they’re in.
- Heathers – 20th High School Reunion Edition
- Hellboy Animated (Limited Edition 2-Pack with Figurine): Includes “Hellboy: Sword of Storms” and “Hellboy: Blood and Iron” along with a Hellboy figurine.
- Kanon, Vol. 6
- The Legend of Bravestarr – Season 1, Volume 2
- Lucky Star, Vol. 2
- Lucky Star, Vol. 2 Limited Edition
- Mad Men – Season One
- Mishima: A Life In Four Chapters: Criterion Collection. ‘Nuff said.
- My Blueberry Nights (The Miriam Collection): You may not have heard of it, but Kai War Wong is one of the most dependable directors out there, with a flair for romantic feel. (In fact, his earlier “Chungking Express” will be one of Criterion’s first Blu-Ray releases this October.)
- Naruto – Vol. 25
- Patriotism – Criterion Collection
- Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns (Two Disc Special Edition + Digital Copy)
- Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns
- Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, Vol. 2 (Episodes 21-40)

Finally, the pick of the week. In a week this weak, I definitely go with the “Batman: The Movie” release in the highest definition you can handle. Next week has better Batman product, but this will be a good dose of fun before the next Nolan/Bale outing.
