Weekly Digital Disc Picks – July 29, 2008

There are a few choice releases this week, including new “Stargate” and new editions of older releases.

First, the DVD releases:

Now, the Blu-Ray releases:

Finally, the pick of the week. While I’m sure a lot of us will pick up the “Stargate – Continuum” release, that’s not the pick. I’m going to bend the “only recommend what I’ve seen” rule slightly, and recommend the “Dark City” director’s cut on the assumption that it’s at least as good as the theatrical cut.

  1. Witchblade
Witchblade was a pretty decent show… barring the last ep of season 1 pretty much erasing the entirety of season 1 ever happening. I really wish Yancy Butler got to be in more shows.

I’m glad Stargate:Continuum is coming out on bluray. When Ark of Truth came out I refused to buy it on standard DVD since they (obviously) shot it in hidef and in fact AIRED it in hidef in England.

…that said, I don’t really think Ark of Truth was worth spending $25 on and I kinda doubt Continuum will be, too. $15, maybe.

  2. Dark City [MINOR SPOILERS]
I saw this when it came out. Think of it as sci-fi noir. Like The Matrix, it covers the case where everything we think we know turns out to be false. It came out a year or two before The Matrix, so it has bragging rights, but I prefer The Matrix.
