Potter VI Delayed till July

News that is going to really, REALLY, piss off my wife: Warner Brothers announced today that the next installment of the franchise, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, will be delayed over half a year to July 17, 2009

Warner cites two main reasons: First, that they’ll make more money (they used fancier terms) and second that the writers strike has everything backed up.

  1. Bad idea
What a load of crap. I read a similar article where they mentioned the writers strike. Which is odd because the movie is nearly finished and they will be starting the 2 part Deathly Hallows early next year. It’s all about money.

Entirely. The way I read the press release is as follows: "we can make a lot of money in either November or July. However, the writers strike shut down production when the summer 2009 tentpoles are usually written, so if we move our average blockbuster from November 2008 to July 2009, it’ll become a huge blockbuster because there will be less competition."

Uh… Duh? They don’t make movies just because they love to see us entertained. It is… all.. about.. money. As disappointed as I am, I love the Harry Potter movies, I am neither surprised or pissed off. If I were in their shoes and thought I could make a lot more money I would do the exact same thing. ROI my man, ROI.
