It seems Stephen King is ready to retire. I
think he’s probably the most successful
horror-fantasy authour out there. I wonder if
anyone’s going to try and fill into the market
void he’ll leave behind. The details are here.

A fall of Dark Tower
So long as he doesn’t leave me hanging on the Dark Tower series, I wish him well.
If he doesn’t finish it…well, he wrote Misery…
Re: A fall of Dark Tower
The article says he’ll write one novel about a Buick, one collection of short stories, and the last three Dark Tower novels next year before retiring.
Re: A fall of Dark Tower
i’d drive up to new england and sit on him myself if i had to.
i must say, he’s tying up his career nicely with the dark tower books. i hope he finds some way to continue to contribute in his retirement. but even if not, we got plenty of his books at home i haven’t read yet.
Re: A fall of Dark Tower
I generally make it a rule not to start reading a series until the series is finished. I am too impatient to wait for the rest of the books. I made this mistake recently with the Harry Potter books. My excuse is that I had to read the book before I saw the movie.
Re: A fall of Dark Tower
Hey, it’s as good an excuse as any.
At least the first book Harry Potter book can, more-or-less, stand on its own. Everything after that, though, it becomes obvious that J.K. Rowling is working on a mytharc of some sort, and that as we go on, You-Know-Who will likely become more and more prominent.
