Weekly Comics Discussion – September 24, 2008

The complete list can be found here. The column’s up early because I’ll be out of town for another conference.

Dark Horse Comics

  • HELLBOY THE CROOKED MAN #3 (OF 3)
  • STAR WARS LEGACY #28 VECTOR PART 9 OF 12
  • USAGI YOJIMBO #114

DC Comics

  • AMBUSH BUG YEAR NONE #3 (OF 6)
  • BLUE BEETLE #31
  • CHUCK #4 (OF 6)
  • LEGION OF SUPER HEROES #46
  • REIGN IN HELL #3 (OF 8)
  • SHOWCASE PRESENTS METAL MEN TP VOL 02
  • SUPERMAN #680
  • SUPERMAN BATMAN #52
  • SUPERNATURAL RISING SON (OF 6)
  • TRINITY #17

GIT Corp

  • STAR TREK COMP COLLECTION DVD – Much like the Marvel titles they can no longer license, this collects all of the Star Trek comics available up to but not including the current IDW titles. That’s DC, Marvel, Malibu, and others, in a 500+ issue collection.

Image Comics

  • PVP #40
  • SPAWN #183

Marvel Comics

  • AVENGERS INITIATIVE #17 – Secret Invasion
  • BLACK PANTHER #41 – The Secret Invasion crossover concludes. This is the last issue of the title I plan to collect.
  • CAPTAIN AMERICA #42 – Brubaker is doing fantastic work on this title.
  • DAREDEVIL #111 – More Brubaker goodness.
  • DEADPOOL #2 – The Secret Invasion crossover continues. The first issue had a very interesting ending.
  • FANTASTIC FOUR #560 – I’ve been pretty lukewarm on this run.
  • HULK
  • MARVEL 1985 #5 (OF 6)
  • MS MARVEL #31
  • NEW AVENGERS #45 – Secret Invasion
  • NOVA #17 – Secret Invasion
  • RUNAWAYS 3 #2
  • SECRET INVASION AMAZING SPIDER-MAN #2 (OF 3) – Secret Invasion. The first issue was good, but it was all about his supporting cast and not Spider-Man himself.
  • SHE-HULK 2 – Secret Invasion
  • THUNDERBOLTS #124 – Secret Invasion
  • ULTIMATE FANTASTIC FOUR X-MEN ANNUAL #1
  • ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN #126
  • ULTIMATES 3 #5 (OF 5) – Jeph Loeb must be one heck of a salesperson. Everything I’ve read by him comes out like this: the solicitations sound great, but the execution just doesn’t seem to deliver. He left Smallville because he found they kept him involved in planning and outlining, but didn’t ask him to write many actual scripts. I think that’s a good role for him.
