amazon link
I’m not sure that link is the right one you wanted? It looks like an associates link but it’s got that redirect and it just takes you straight to the regular front page of amazon instead of the product page… I dunno. This link works though :) Star Trek:TNG Complete Second Season
Re: amazon link
I’m not sure how to build the Bureau
42 reference into the link on Amazon, so I just liked
to the main page with a referral. I’ve got to get
Dave to explain how to do the regular referrals again.
:)
Re: amazon link
You’re referral would be this: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000062XFG/scifi If you go to associates.amazon.com, on the left menu is a link to link builder and all you do is put the ASIN/ISBN number of the product in and it builds the link which I pasted above. In this case B000062XFG is the ASIN (listed in the product’s descrip).
Re: amazon link
As long as all my desperate attempts to break even are being aired out… the referral code is “scifinews”, not “scifi”. So this would be the correct link. :-)
Re: amazon link
*laugh* sorry, my bad. have you gotten any referrer commission yet? :)
first season set for 97.50 with free shipping
here
it’s not a HUGE discount, but if you include the no shipping then maybe it’s a little more significant compared to amazon.com
now if only seach engines would turn up a good excuse for me to pay all 700 dollars for all seven seasons… ;)
also find it for 90.99 +plus shipping here
Re: first season set for 97.50 with free shipping
Yeah, I guess. This qualifies for free
shipping through Amazon on purchases more than $150,
so the price difference won’t be as big if you’re
buying more than this and shipping it to a U.S.
address.
Re: first season set for 97.50 with free shipping
i think you meant to say orders of 99 dollars or more?
i just worry that people don’t realize there’s a whole world of retailers beyond amazon.com, and that you can save some bucks if you take the time. i wish there was a pricewatch.com for stuff other than computer parts… pricegrabber.com isn’t too bad though.
i ordered the blueplanet dvds from deepdvddiscount, i’ll be happy to tell anyone who wants to know how the experience goes once i get my shipment. i’ll be using them for the star trek dvds (after i talk myself into buying them ;D ) if all goes well.
Re: first season set for 97.50 with free shipping
Bah. No point in speculating on Amazon‘s shipping and pricing schemes, since they change about as regularly as I change T-shirts. Especially since they won’t charge you ’til they ship, and the odds of any given promotion still being run three months from now are fairly slim, why worry about it?
As noted elsewhere, yeah, it’d be schweet if there were something like Pricewatch for a lot of these other things. Thing is, Pricewatch is basically the modern equivalent of the old Computer Shopper – remember a few years back, when it was about a thousand pages? Just about 100% ads, with a few articles tucked in between pages 580 and 594. Same basic idea, but Pricewatch doesn’t have to bother with an editorial staff.
But computer hardware is darn near a commodity at this point – readily available, and (for many consumers) relatively undifferentiated. Yeah, some people would say “I want a 30.0 GB hard drive, not an IBM because they’re flaky, 7200 RPM, supporting ATA133”, but most people will say “I need more space. Make it happen.” Books and videos aren’t at all like that.
For what little it’s worth, for those items listed by half.com, they have a little Java applet that checks the bigger stores (Amazon and B&N at least). And, honestly, there aren’t as many smaller online bookstores, because of that commodity thing – you can’t really order “a fantasy movie.” You want to order “The Crow” or “The Princess Bride” and smaller sites can’t keep every conceivable item in stock. There are plenty of good niche sites (I try to pick good ones when I add stuff to the magic-ad-banner-o-matic) but nobody can sell everything.
Did I have a point? I seem to have lost it at some stage. Sorry, I’ll quit babbling now.
Re: first season set for 97.50 with free shipping
Hate to break it to ya, but if you go to http://www.dvdpricesearch.com and look it up, there’s one place that’s listing it for $85.99. I haven’t checked it out yet, since I’m unemployed and can’t afford good stuff like this (poor me)..
Re: first season set for 97.50 with free shipping
hey thanks for the link, that’s a handy tool.
i’d prolyl still buy from deepdvddiscount, because they have a higher rating, and because my blue planet dvds came in a timely and well-packaged manner (past successful history with a company is big points in my book), but maybe i’ll order a single dvd from a cheaper vendor as a test run.
Woe is I….
This spring and summer, the following things are coming out:
The Simpsons Season 2. – May
Everything’s Eventual (S. King Short story collection) – March 19.
Star Trek: TNG, season 1 and 2 – March and May
X-files, Season 5 – May 14th.
On top of all of this, I’m getting married and buying a house. Anyone care to buy two and donate one to me? :)
Re: Woe is I….
i’ll buy the star trek, you buy the simpsons, and we’ll swap copies over ftp ;D
Sweet
Given that the Simpsons is a half-hour show, and Star Trek is a one-hour show, that means the Simpsons DVD set should be just about half the size of the Star Trek one. And, with the unexplainable DVD pricing scheme, that means mine will cost about 3/4ths of yours :)
Plus, given that my cable modem is going away in about two weeks (moving), transferring the content of 7 DVDs at a decent quality would probably take up the remainder of my Earthly existence.
