All roads lead to Arthur as he and Mohinder collaborate, Angela has plans for Peter, Sylar seeks the truth about his parentage, and Hiro and Claire travel through time.
The portions of this I saw raised many questions, including, “Does anyone here want to submit full reviews?” I will gladly send our format and post the reviews for you.
- Does the removal of a key villain bode well for the direction of this season?
- Sylar has a list of other people with metahuman abilities. Who agrees that the cast isn’t nearly large enough?
- When will we get to see the Heroes Babies spin-off cartoon?
- Was Angela’s plan good, or is she just compensating for not getting Peter that official Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time for Christmas when he was little?
- Is Arthur really dead this time?

I’m not sure where exactly you’re getting the 2 sentence episode synopsis, but it’s got a few inaccuracies.
#1. Peter and the Haitian weren’t after Sylar
#2. Claire and Hiro time traveled last week
That said, the show is really starting to look like a train wreck. A certain baddy can teleport, but i’m not sure how exactly he got to where he did to do what he did, had a bit of a paradoxical feeling to it given that he’d need an ability that he didn’t have (based on what has been shown so far) in order to do what he did which was get that ability.

They did show us the baddy picked up that ability; Arthur sucked out all of Peter’s powers — time/space mastery, precognition, etc. We see Arthur spark electricity right after sucking Peter dry. He teleports to kill the African guy. He then goes into white eye mode and draws the future. I don’t have any of the previous episodes saved on my DVR to check, but one of those pictures he drew might have told him where to be and when.
I don’t think they played fair though with Arthur being able to suck out powers in the first place. His flashback shows he can read minds like Matt and Maury Parkman. Did he have two powers at his disposal? Who knows… It is possible given that the Haitian has shown the ability to negate powers and wipe people’s minds. Doubt we’ll get an explanation for that (prove me wrong writers!).
What has been really chafing me is the handling of the Haitian’s power. Until this episode, it has always been treated as an area of effect. He didn’t have to be in line of sight like a B5 telepath; if he was near, your power was just switched off. Also, his power could affect multiple people at one time without effort. However, this episode his power is only affecting Arthur; Sylar walks right in and uses his powers no problem. He’s also complaining that he can’t hold Arthur’s power back? You could try explaining this away by saying the Haitian was focusing all his power on one target, but it just doesn’t wash well with what I’ve seen in previous episodes.
Overall, I’m still mostly enjoying this series; not ready to call it quits yet.

Regarding the Haitian, his power does seem to be area-effective, but Arthur was able to push back on him. By the time Sylar showed up, the Haitian was very weakened, and was doing all he could to focus his power on Arthur. Sylar pretty much had an open door, and he walked right through it.

Remember that the first time HRG and the Haitian got to Nathan, he flew away? Also, he’s shown concentrating, at least to some degree, when erasing memories. I always assumed that he needed to concentrate to block powers. Combine that with the scene where Sylar was able to prevent Peter from absorbing his power until he wanted him to. Concentration seems to be the key, and Arthur was concentrating better than the Haitian.

As I said, I didn’t bother watching the whole episode. The Peter/Haitian reference is a slip, which I fixed. Thanks. I know Claire and Hiro time-travelled last week, but they have their time-travel adventure this week– which is much of what I saw.

That had me rolling. It is going to be hard to see that actor playing Spock after seeing him as a serial killer.

I kind of liked "it DOES tingle." Maybe with the spooky, creepy, sociopathic Sylar back we can get back to some of the feel of the first season?

Not for me. I sort of flashed Spock a couple of times. On raised eye brow, and his calm dispassionate manner. He is going to make a great Spock.
Acting
Good acting from Hiro (both of them) and Sandra Bennett – it was obvious that she was a 16-year-younger new mom rather than the jaded vaguely-unhappy mother of two teenagers.
I get the feeling that the next volume will be Heroes IV: The War of the Bucket, since all of the remaining possible formula is in a bucket in Mohinder’s lab. With the Catalyst gone, can they even make more?
Arthur Petrelli‘s death doesn’t bother me nearly as much as it should, for the same reasons that Peter losing his powers didn’t. The reason? He was already overpowered, and showed no signs of slowing down – too big a threat to leave hanging. Besides, he groomed his apprentice to take his place; the plan is already in motion, and he is no longer required to move it forward.
Returning
Maybe they heard how far past the shark they were getting, and are trying to fix it?
The writers all got together and said "Hey, Season one was great, lets go back to that,"
Sylar’s road to redemption is cut short when the writers get word that the fans really like him as a psychopath, but not so much as a poor, tortured guy.
Idiot overpowered Peter? Keep his heart, the fans ate that up, but take out his power.
Arthur story line? Eh, screw that. Lets go back to Nathan being politically powerful, and the one to be doing wrong, but for what he thinks are noble reasons.
George Takei? They loved him, bring that back. Get the Haitian while you’re at it. Is Malcolm McDowell busy?
Lets tie it all together with "Save the Cheerleader…"
