Happy Birthday Poe

Just in case it wasn’t on your calendar, today marks Edgar Allan Poe‘s 200th birthday. Apart from being one of the creepiest authors of all time, he is also credited as the creator of the Detective-fiction genre.

If you haven’t actually read any Poe, be sure to head over to Project Gutenburg and download one or all of his works (for free). Amongst my personal favorites: Tell-Tale Heart, Pit and the Pendulum, and The Cask of Amontillado.

But don’t let me have the final word on the subject, what’s your favorite?

I’ve never admitted this publicly for the fear of being labeled a philistine but uhhh I don’t find his stuff very scary at all. Really.

House of Usher for example was a snooze fest. Need I say anything about The Raven? Really? Really.

To each his (or her) own. I have several authors that I feel that way about (Steinbeck, anyone?), but I have read a lot of Poe and (by and large) loved it. House of Usher was not one of my personal favs.

I married my wife last year, and in the process, my gift with purchase is my ten year old daughter, Raven.

Last October, we had a baby girl, Inara Lenore.

    Happy Birthday, Edgar!!
