Unicorn vs Narwhal, and stranger things…

Blinky has Youtube’s most comprehensive superhero-related channel, with fan films, faux trailers, and costume-making advice.

This nerdy girl has become one of Youtube’s hottest vloggers.

(Update: Of course, nerd purists will want to click here for a real nerd girl).

Finally, I’ve been recommending a certain short film by Adrian Molina for two years. I can’t believe I haven’t posted it here yet, and that it hasn’t really gone viral. Find it below….

What youtube views do you recommend to the Bureau?

  1. Quick question
Ok, the Uniwar was hilarious, but…

    What makes her nerdy?
Aside from, you know, being on the internet.

She posts a regular, edited vlog in which she frequently rants about trivialities, she admits to watching movies alone, she thinks Happy Days is cool, and she wears t-shirts with (frequently) geeky expressions on’em. Maybe she’s not Nerdy in the SF/fantasy/techie sense (though she likes Minority Report), but I think she qualifies as a… er… small "n" nerd…. Or something.

      Yeah, how about that Uniwar?

      What else do people recommend?

Are we talking, nerdy as in, "likes SF and related genres" nerdy, "loves technology," or nerdy, "kind of obsessive about stuff to the point of not caring if it’s socially appropriate"?

What defines the true nerd? Or do we just give anyone with a video-log a pass?

She’s apparently selling those shirts, BTW…

So, yeah, I associate none of those with being nerdy.
15 years ago, just knowing about the net was nerdy, but the "millenials" have been exposed to the net for as long as they could read and write, at least; having a net presence is no longer nerdy on and of itself.
If she should take the nerdity test (I rank ‘extreme nerd’ meself), or the "geek test" as it is now known, then we’d know.

Now, if you want a youTube link, and know what I consider to be a nerdy girl: BEHOLD! http://ca.youtube.com/user/sweetafton23

  2. The internet is full of things
(reposted here from the wrong thread…)

There are two examples that spring to mind when I want to demonstrate just how incredible the internet is.

The best lightsaber battle I’ve ever seen. 10 minutes of pure awesome.

And not one but two versions of Pachelbel’s Canon in D, on traditional Korean instruments, accompanied by a by a human beatbox and a hip-hop DJ in a tie, while somebody breakdances.

(Yes, these and all these other links are the Future. I somehow doubt anyone in the 80s would have predicted this…)
