Trek Tidbits

A few things:

The next new episode of Enterprise will air next week, March 20th. The episode will be titled “Rogue Planet” and features a race similar to the Herogen (from Voyager) hunting down a planet’s population for sport.

In other Trek news, Rick Berman confirmed that Wil Weaton, Whoopi Goldberg, and Kate Mulgrew will all have cameos in “Nemesis.” This is kinda old news, but I apparently overlooked it (Bad Trekkie! Bad! No gakh for you!).

  1. Kate?
So, I Assume That Means We’ll Be Seeing Janeway, Not Just ‘Ensign FutureCapt’ Played By Kate.

I Wonder If They Plan On Working Voyager In, Or On Just Adding A Star Fleet Meeting Where Some Captains are Visiting, Including Her. I’d Personally Like To See Voyager. For As Weak As The Show Got, I Thought That The Ship And Crew Still Have Some Potential.

It Was Actually Good In The Earlier Seasons, At Least From What I Saw.

According to the press release she will be an admiral for the film. My guess (according to some leaked info) is that she will advising/talking to Picard via subspace comm on the Enterprise’s mission.

It strikes me as a little comical to picture Adm. Janeway advising Capt. Picard since he’s not only older, but more skilled, experienced, intelligent…

It strikes me as consistent. If Star Fleet has made one thing clear, it’s that they don’t trust Picard after his experience with the Borg. He may be a captain for the rest of his career.

yeah but who’s in the better position? remember what kirk told him in generations though: don’t ever let them take your command away from you! ;) maybe they’ll touch on that in the dialogue.

I dunno. Kirk couldn’t really work as an Admiral because, as he said “I’m a soldier, not a diplomat”, whereas Picard is a diplomat. I think Picard is a lot more suited to the ‘abstract’ type of command that admirallity would involve, as well as tactics etc, whereas Kirk needs to be more Hands-On and actually BE in the action. Oh GOD I’m such a nerd.

It’s OK. I like to think of this site as group therapy for all our manias.

The whole ST promotion scenario is a little nuts. Kirk gets to Admiral, then is busted to Captain AND GIVEN A SHIP AGAIN? Riker is appointed Captain in BOBW, then bumped back when Picard is rescued from the Borg, goes on to serve with distinction on two different Enterprises (altho losing one of them under his temporary command due to lack of tactical caution!) over a ten year period and is still a Commander? Janeway gets half her crew killed, makes unauthorized deals with the Maquis to replace her losses, is out of touch for 7 years, ***deliberately*** lets herself get assimilated by the Borg and is instantly promoted to Admiral but Picard can’t be an Admiral because he was ***unwillingly*** assimilated during a distinguished carreer in the Alpha Quadrant limelight? Sisko gets DS9 as a Commander, is basically kidnapped by aliens as powerful as those on Talos IV and declared a religious savior upon his return and is eventually promoted to Captain anyway? LBNL, Wesley gets to be an ensign? Hey, it’s just a fairy tale. My big question is what rank did the original Number One under Pike eventually reach? Now THERE’S a nerd question for ya…

That was a Field Commision. Field Commisions are strictly temporary, but after Wolf 459, it was pretty much assumed he’d be a full Captain because Star Fleet was so hard up for talent.

Hell, Data and Worf should’ve had their own ships at this point.

How many times was Riker told that if he kept passing up commisions, they’d eventually stop asking him?
