Heroes Discussion: “Building 26”

The American government continues to investigate the metahuman threat, Hiro, Ando, and Matt travel to India, while Claire and Sylar prepare for Father’s Day.

If you were trying to convince fled viewers to return, what sort of case would this episode make?

This episode was pretty boring, IMHO. Mostly character development. I like what they are doing with Sylar. The line about "I’m NOT a serial killer… Well, I guess technically I am." was priceless. I like the fact that Hiro did NOT get his powers back, although I’d like him to have some powers. I also like where they seem to be going next week with HRG. Also, it almost seemed like Nathan was about to realize that he lost control of the guy with aids, but I’m afraid he’s too stupid to realize that.

Hmmm. I wouldn’t have called this a spoiler, but:

Since they’ve established that speedster girl could time travel when her powers were boosted, I think the best power for Hiro would be super speed. It’s a much needed nerf on his time-stop/travel powers, but not a big stretch. Unfortunately, with Ando around, that would be problematic. Of course, they’ve laid groundwork for a Hiro/Ando breakup.

I think what we’ll see eventually is Hiro getting either his teleportation or his time manipulation (slow down) powers back, but not time travel. Having one would make him powerful, but not broken power, kind of like Peter is now. Seems clear to me that at least someone on the Heroes staff realizes how broken characters like Peter, Hiro, and Maury can make it difficult to write a believable story, and I honestly think that most of "Season 3" was a concerted effort to tone down Hiro and Peter in an acceptable way.

Ah! I totally forgot that was on.
I think "acceptable" is not a goal that was reached, since I have now gone from "this show is awesome!" to "stopped caring".

I don’t care about your characters, you’ve shown that you can bring back people from the dead, so mortal danger is no danger at all.
I don’t care to understand their powers, you can take them away at anytime and replace them at any time, or give new ones to others.

None of it means a damn thing.

Of course, they’ve laid groundwork for a Hiro/Ando breakup.

Except the future Hiro vs. Ando conflict came early in season three when future Peter tampering with the past set in motion a series of event that would result in worldwide catastrophe. They were fighting over the formula right? The question is, are those events still in motion, or have the heroes actions circumvented that outcome? There seem to be two possible outcomes for the future: powers are let loose resulting in apocalypse, or meta humans are hunted/imprisoned to eliminate the threat. Perhaps the future will keep shifting between these two possible outcomes.

True, but that’s not the only setup we’ve seen. Since Hiro saw that future, and even mroe since Ando has had powers while Hiro doesn’t; there has been tension in their relationship. Notice how Hiro reacted when he thought Ando had borken up the wedding without him. Ando never particularly liked being the sidekick anyway, and Hiro isn’t built for it either.

If Hiro had his powers, he would be the best. sidekick. EVER!

Ando has the useless flashy power. He can bask in his sparkly limelight while the real hero does his selfless duty with his super subtle power: Ando rides in on his flashy custom bike, and in his Power Man persona, waves his useless glowing hand at the bad guys. If the bad guys have powers, he just made them go all weird and out of control, possibly foiling their criminal endeavor; if that doesn’t work, Hiro can freeze time, teleport there, do whatever needs to be done to ensure that Ando wins (tie shoelaces together, move guns so they don’t hit anyone when they shoot, etc.), teleport back to the lair. Ta-daa! Power Man saved the day!

            Wealth and fame; he’s ignored.
            Action is… his reward.

I loved it when Skylar said:

"OK. Technically, I’m a serial killer"

    That was great.
Skylar is my favorite part of Heroes right now, but I keep hoping for more improvements. ;)

I liked when he turned on the radio to shut the kid up, and the song playing was Psycho Killer…
