Dollhouse Discussion – “The Target”

I didn’t have time to watch this episode for a proper review, but here’s a place to discuss it. Ratings dropped to 1.7, which is pretty dismal, and lower than the ratings received by most episodes of “Firefly.”

  1. Not a bad show
Its not a bad show… its just not a very good one either. Really, its completely forgettable. It sort of blends into the background of the other shows on television. Its like the plain girl that you would never notice in a crowd. It completely lacks any of the merits that made Firefly awesome.

So far, yeah. But I’m hoping the more into it we get, the less FOX influence is evident, and the better it will get. For now, it feels like Joss is rushing to get a three season arch crammed into the first three episodes. He might be, too.

I’ve been told that Fox wants the show to have stand alone episodes (the better to syndicate).

I like it, jarringly awkward TV speeches aside (repetition is our job! It’s our job to be repetitive), but you have to wonder why Joss keeps trying to make his relationship with his abusive partner work.

  2. supporting roles are better
The supporting roles, played by Helo and Commander Lock respectively, (does it say anything that I still see their previous characters in this setting) are far more interesting than the main character.

Heck, I might even learn their new names. – If it lasts long enough.

I feel much the same way. Watching what so far appears to be the worlds most versatile call girl just isn’t as interesting as it sounded. The interplay between Echo and her Handler is about the only thing that’s really keeping me watching.

I especially liked the implication that the imprint worked both ways.

Don’t forget Romo Lampkin, or if you prefer Badger.

I didn’t FORGET Badger… I just dont’ think that character is very compelling… .Not that they’ve give that quality actor anything worth his ability to work with… he’s just (to this point) background filler. I mean how interesting can it be to play a FBI agent that is openly critical of the guy spouting conspiracy theories?

  3. The Island
After watching this episode, the first thing I thought was this show is the TV version of the movie The Island.

I am interested in what drove Echo’s real persona to volunteer for such a job. Presumable from the pilot she knew what she was getting into, and that it was a set time period contract after which she would be herself again.

  4. Alpha
Alpha, who was secretly testing Echo in this episode, will eventually show up and apparently he’ll be played by Alan Tudyk – aka Wash from Firefly – that alone will get me to keep watching.

It wont be funny, which is a problem, but hopefully it can be interesting.

really? I hadn’t heard that… Cool. And I can even forgive the lack of his typical humor as long as they work in some non-out-of-character, believable reason for him to pick up a plastic T-Rex., but that’s just me.
