Movie release dates roundup

A number of press releases came out yesterday confirming release dates for a number of genre movies and filming dates. The list is below, sorted chronologically. I’ve also thrown in some previously announced titles that are likely of interest to people in the next few months.

  • Watchmen – March 6, 2009
  • Monsters vs. Aliens – March 27, 2009
  • Dragonball: Evolution – April 10, 2009
  • Battle for Terra – May 1, 2009
  • X-Men Origins: Wolverine – May 1, 2009
  • Star Trek – May 8, 2009
  • Angels and Demons – May 15, 2009 – The “Da Vinci Code” sequel that had its own FAQ on CERN’s website when the book came out. I haven’t read it, but based on the contents of the FAQ, I’d say the CERN portion of the novel was entirely unresearched.
  • Terminator: Salvation – May 22, 2009
  • Night at the Museum: Battle at the Smithsonian – May 22, 2009
  • Up – May 29, 2009 – Pixar. ‘Nuff said.

  1. Half Blood
I understand that Harry Potter’s British an all, but why oh why wouldn’t they release it over July 4th in the US. I think that could be a bigger opening for them than the 17th would be.

why wouldn’t they release it over July 4th in the US.

They must be intimidated by another movie releasing the same day, with an overlapping target demographic.

They shouldn’t be. While I more than likely see both Ice Age and Harry Potter, I’m way more interested in Half Blood Prince.

I can’t believe the summer tentpole flick is Ice Age 3(4?).

  2. Angels and Demons

Heh, like the CERN folks would design anti-matter containers to be movie-dramatic time bombs, or an in-air anti-matter explosion that doesn’t do much damage

Turn on the LHC already! http://www.xkcd.com/547/

    • Re: Angels and Demons
Technically, Angels and Demons came first. Da Vinci Code is the sequel. Due to the latter book’s insane success, it was the first movie made.

Having read both, I say Angels and Demons is a far superior book (with some scientific errors). I just doubt Hanks and Howard are the team to do it. Needs faster pacing and tighter film work, which neither is known for.

  3. CERN FAQ on "Angels and Demons"
I found the FAQ I mentioned from CERN regarding "Angels and Demons." You can read it here.

  4. Yikes ….
    CLASH OF THE TITANS?!!???

I saw the original at the theatre (boy I feel old) and it was god awful. Not sure why they would want to do a remake.

I came here to say that. Except for the theatre part (:

Maybe that’s WHY they’re doing a remake. Nothing worse than an inferior remake of a great film.
