Weekly Digital Disc Picks – March 24, 2009

Amazon.com’s “New Releases” page, where I get my source data, seems to be down, showing only up to the March 10 release date. I used the list from “Amazon.ca” instead. As such, I may have missed a couple of titles that come out on different schedules on different sides of the borders, and some of the ASIN numbers used to build links may be off. (I checked most of them, but I’m not sure I checked them all.) If you get a dead link, let me know and I’ll fix it.

First, the DVD picks:

Now, the Blu-Ray picks:

Finally, the picks of the week. AceCaseOR recommends “The World Is Not Enough” on Blu-Ray. Fiziko recommends “The 400 Blows” for those who can watch a subtitled movie, and “Goldfinger” to the rest.

  1. Really?
The World is Not Enough? I dragged some friends to see that one in the theatre and when it was over I felt the need to personally apologise.

I liked it – though I saw it on video rather than in theaters, and, actually, I thought it was a different thing for the franchise to have Elektra King is the Mastermind, instead of Renard.

  2. Clone Wars
I remember reading somewhere (sorry, can’t remember the source) that a full-season DVD of the Star Wars: Clone Wars series will be released in the future. So I recommend not purchasing these interim releases. If you need to watch them, they’re available online at starwars.com.

  3. Some good ones this week
Venture brothers season 3 is a definite buy for me. Followed by Quantum of Solace. If I’ve got some extra cash I’ll give Andy Richter controls the Universe a thought.

If I didn’t already own copies of them I’d probably pick up the Lilo and Stich re-release and Solty Rei boxset.

I’d seen a bit of the beginning of Solty Rei before it got licensed, and I kind of liked what I saw, but it was licensed before the end of the series, and I haven’t gotten around to adding it to my Netflix Queue yet. It is, though, on my long, long list of Anime I Need To Watch (and possibly review)
