Heroes Discussion: “Cold Snap”

The show has apparently been improving lately. Does this week’s episode continue the trend?

And how easily does the show integrate so many plot threads?

  1. About time.
The last 5 episodes or so have been fantastic.
This doesn’t quite make up for how badly they ruined the first 2/3 of this season to
clean up the mess they made in season two during the writer’s strike, but it’s a start.

      Agreed, that was a mess.

Baby-touch-and-go seemed like a bit of a stretch to be able to give Hiro his powers back, especially since he could only restore *some* of Hiro’s powers, but I’m willing to accept it. I like the way the writers came up with toning Peter’s and Hiro’s powers back. They’ve, at least so far, removed time travel from the equation, which is a good thing.
I also like that the predictions about Rebel came true, even though it was so obvious. I missed seeing Micah and it’s nice to have him back. Killing off Ali Larter for the last time was a fitting end to a useless character. I hate the way the "killed off" Niki earlier in the season. I thought she deserved more than just "oh, BTW, she’s dead."
Anyway, this season is shaping up to follow nicely in season 1’s footsteps.
I vote we ignore the second half and season 2 and all of season 3 (since this is supposedly season 4).

I’m betting Ali Larter will be back either as Tracy because her shattered ice face winked at the end or because I remember her finding out there were triplets, and she was the 2nd.

She’s not dead. One of her eyes blinked when she was laying in pieces on the floor.

Oh I’m pretty sure she’s dead, it’s not like we’re talking about Linda Lake here, I can’t imagine her just reforming into a Popsicle and thawing out.

I’m really sad that Daphne is dead (i think???) I really liked her character and where she was heading.

I liked her too, she had a lot of promise, but I’m pretty sure she is. It seemed to me that the writers have been taking the fans complaints about the show into consideration this "season" and have been trying to address them. One of the main complaints being that people die and come back to life too often. I think they couldn’t make up their mind about whether or not to kill her, realized it was a bad idea to bring her back to life, and killed her off in a way that would stick. The same goes with Ali Larter’s character. If she comes back this season I’ll be really disappointed. Maybe if they’re on for a few more years they could justify bringing one long dead character back.

I really hope they keep him around. Even though his powers almost threaten to become the shows next deus ex machina, they’re unique enough that we could see the writers do some really interesting things with him. Between him, Matt, Peter, Suresh, Hiro, Ando, and perhaps even Angela, you have the core of a pretty powerful team of "X-Men" that could hold their own against anything the government could throw at them, and stay on the run indefinitely. I’d love to see the show run with this "fugitives from the law" theme for a while, past this season.

This part makes sense to me; Baby T&G’s power doesn’t seem to be indiscriminate. He makes things go that he wants to "go". On an instinctual level, Baby T&G recognized bad men were trying to hurt him and his new friends. Hiro wanted to stop time, and T&G made it happen because he knew this was something that needed to "go". Since the danger was over, T&G didn’t need to make Hiro’s teleporting power "go".

Really loved the bits with Hiro and Ando this time around. Still enjoying the show overall, but I’m hoping they don’t disappoint on the follow through for this plot. Don’t want another unsatisfying ending like Sylar’s road trip to see his dad.

Maybe if you remember Hiro has lost his powers before.[Maybe his powers have recovered and he can only access them when his adrenal gands are going full bore. Once he froze time he was calmer, and didn’t need to as much. Of course now he likely will need T&G as sort of a talisman like the sword. I say this because it seems a stretch of his powers, and we’ve seen multiple powers only in the mimics and the Haitian. With the Haitian I suspect his true power is to suppress parts of peoples brains.
