“Wolverine” Leaked Early on the Web

According to folks over at HitFix, someone pulled a big April Fool’s on Fox and released a near-finished copy of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” on the web.

Not a happy mutant.
Not a happy mutant.

From Fox: “Last night, a stolen, incomplete and early version of X-Men Origins: Wolverine was posted illegally on websites. It was without many effects and had missing scenes and temporary sound and music. We immediately contacted the appropriate legal authorities and had it removed. We forensically mark our content so we can identify sources that make it available or download it. The source of the initial leak and any subsequent postings will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law – the courts have handed down significant criminal sentences for such acts and the last person who committed such a crime is still in jail. The FBI and the MPAA also are actively investigating this crime. We are encouraged by the support of fansites condemning piracy and this illegal posting and pointing out that such theft undermines the enormous efforts of the filmmakers and actors, and above all, hurts the fans of the film.”

  1. I’m opposed to the release of workprints in general, and would oppose the idea even if it were legal. Workprints like this are missing the little touches that really make the movie. If you haven’t seen movies in various stages of development, these are more likely to sour you on a good movie than anything else. Editing plays a big part of the movie making process, and it works on a subliminal level. Seeing a movie before it’s been edited will not be a good thing.

  2. Personally, I have no idea why anyone would want to watch a half completed movie, free or no. I would rather wait a little while longer, pay the $5.00 to $9.00 bucks it costs in this area, and see it on the big screen with the big sound. But, hey, thats just me.
