April a good month for DVD animation

It’s a really slow news day, so I’ve been
browsing the Amazon.com “Coming soon” files
again. This looks like a nice month for animation
on DVD. Those who are interested can Read More
for the details. I can’t afford more than one or
two of these titles, so if there’s something you
really want to see reviewed, let me know and I’ll
see what I can do.

I’m going to organize them by release date.

April 9

Neon Genesis Evangelion Perfect
Collection
: That’s all 26 episodes, with
some new cover art on the first two disks so they
all look nice in the box.
Ranma 1/2 – Anything Goes Martial Arts:
This looks like a complete second season box
set.

April 16

Sailer Moon Vol. 1: This show, which I
personally couldn’t stand, it starting to come to
DVD.

April 23

There’s a half a dozen Batman titles,
including the uncut version of Batman Beyond:
Return of the Joker
, as well as some
Superman and Justice League
stuff.
After the hit I’ve taken destroying some
childhood memories with the sub-par
Robotech, I’m not sure I want to see the
Transformers: Season One box set. In any
event, it’s cheap, so I might shell out for
it.
Metropolis, the new version, is also out
on DVD April 23. I’ve heard nothing negative
about this (except from one person who hates
anime in all of its forms.)
April 23 will also see releases of some volumes
of Love Hina, Nadia, The Secret of
Blue Water
, and Mobile Suit Gundam
0080
. Spriggan also comes to
DVD.

April 30

This is the day Spider-Man: The Ultimate
Villain Showdown
hits the market. I’m
having a hard time trying to find an official
product page for it, though. The Amazon page
says it’s episodes from the 1960’s cartoon, but
the Walmart page says it’s from the 1994 cartoon.
If anyone can find an official word on it, let
me know.

So, those are the titles I noticed. Is there
anything you want me to spend my hard earned
dollars on, so you don’t have to?

  1. Transformers is still cool
I purchased Transformers: The Movie last year when it came out on DVD and, about the same time, I rented a video tape from the local indie video store that had the first 3 episodes of the original Transformers. I had been disappointed when watching old episodes of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the early 90s X-men cartoon, and a few others I liked when a kid/preteen, but Transformers is still good and entertaining even to this day.

Also, that Ranma 1/2 box set IS the second season.

  2. SEN TO CHIHIRO NO KAMIKAKUSHI (Spirited Away) by miyazaki
any word on when this will be released in the US? I’ve read a few times that disney is working on the dubbing (a waste of my precious waiting time, but they hafta do it to make any money selling it), but i haven’t seen a date.
