Fall 2009 TV Schedules

The major network upfronts are done, and there are some points of interest. Smallville changed nights (and will continue to get weekly reviews here), Medium changed networks, Sarah Connor Chronicles is off the air, and both Fox and NBC are splitting their scheduled through the fall and winter seasons. If you see two shows in one timeslot in the charts below, the first is for fall, and the second is for winter. Empty cells were not specified by the network, so local affiliates can fill them as appropriate.

  1. I think you transposed ABC and Time on Mondays.

Mostly for my own purposes, but here’s what my household will be watching:

Sunday: Cold Case (My wife’s show.)
    Monday: Castle, House, Heroes
    Tuesday: NCIS, NCIS: Los Angels
    Wednesday: Nada
    Thursday: Bones
Friday: Ghost Whisperer, Medium, Numbers, Smallville, Dollhouse
    Saturday: Nada

    Other Notes:
Three Rivers is a drama about Organ Transplants. I wonder if it’s set in Pittsburgh, which wass founded on the Three Rivers? That might make it worth it, I love my hometown.

Let me guess: Vampire Diaries:Twilight::Charmed:The Craft?

    What’s Past Life?

Ghost Whisperer and Medium on the same network? Anyone else thing that’s the sort of thing where if they were two different companies, the employees would be updating their resumes as they prepared to become ‘redundant’? It’s like Go-bots leading into Transformers.

    • The Time/ABC thing is fixed now. “Vampire Diaries” is getting pretty strong advance word, and a title like that could serve well paired with “Supernatural.” I’d have been tempted to move “Supernatural” up an hour to have it lead into the new show, but there’s always the risk of losing viewers when you play with schedules like that.

    • That was probably the best news out of the upfronts for me, along with the fact that NBC might order a back 9 to the season to run into the summer. Sadly though, they left it in what may be the most competitive time slot on TV right now.

      • My busiest time slot is definitely Thursdays at 8pm CST: Supernatural, Fringe, The Office/30 Rock, and Grey’s. This kind of thing is why I have two Tivos.

  3. I just found out today Sarah Connor is off the air. It’s a shame. :( I am especially surprised with the new movie coming out. Perhaps Fox has low expectations for it? Oh well, Fringe has been looking up.

  4. Shouldn’t Wednesday at 10 be LOST for the second half of the season?

Also I predict that Leno 5 days a week will definitely help NBC succeed in being the lowest rated network. What a bonehead move.

    • Lost probably will take that timeslot. ABC hasn’t published its final mid-season schedule, so I didn’t include it, just in case it changes day or times again. It is confirmed that it’s got one more season, though. (In early season three, they negotiated for a specific number of episodes so they can write the show to a close. There’s only one year left, regardless of ratings, so they can plan to wrap things up.)

  5. One other big change I forgot to point out: Reaper is now officially cancelled, though there has been some talk of a different network picking it up for weekend syndication.

    • Reaper was decent for basically being Chuck without the geek aspect and hell in place of the CIA and while I liked it I won’t be too upset that it’s gone (unlike tSCC damnit…). The good news with that is that it looks like it’s at least moving towards some kind of plot resolution if last weeks teaser was any indicator.

      • I love Reaper. While I like Chuck, Reaper is way more fun in my opinion. If it doesn’t make it to another network I will be very disappointed.

I am also sorry to see The Sarah Connor Chronicles go. It was a good show.

  6. What is the process for submitting a story to Bureau42? I can’t seem to find it on the site.

    • That’s the one feature we still haven’t restored after the upgrade. Until we do, just e-mail myself or Dave and we’ll do it manually.

  7. Not strictly on point, but are there any thoughts about CBS’s decision to air NCIS and its spinoff back-to-back? Tuesdays aren’t the stiffest night of competition, but it seems to be a little bit of overkill, comparable to putting 2 hours of law & order or CSI together. NCIS is hot right now, and damned straight my wife and I will be watching, but it still seems like an odd play.

    • I haven’t heard anything official, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they launch back to back and then the spinoff gets moved when it develops its own following, possibly next year, so it can hit a more competitive timeslot with a more dedicated audience.
