This is a great week for library titles on Blu-Ray, particularly from the action genre. Those who don’t have Blu-Ray capacity are facing a much less interesting selection.
First, the DVD picks:
- Army Wives: The Complete Season Two
- Baby on Board
- Cannon, Season Two, Vol. 1
- The Complete Abbott and Costello Show
- Eddie Murphy: Delirious 25th Anniversary Edition
- Fairly Odd Parents, Season 1
- Fairly Odd Parents, Season 2
- He’s Just Not That Into You
- Highlander: The Complete Animated Series
- The Hunger: Complete First Season
- Irresponsible Captain Tyler TV Complete & Remastered: Space opera anime series about a starship captain in the military who either has the devil’s luck, or is a complete genus, but you’d never tell by looking at him (being that he’s a total slacker).
- The Jetsons, Season Two, Vol. 1
- Legendary Heroes: Boxed set of 4 Shaw Brothers films (one per disk even, which is a nice change considering that often you’d get 4 films on one disk with all the picture quality that would entail) – The Shadow Whip, The Shaolin Intruders, Legendary Weapons of China, The Deadly Breaking Sword.
- Mazinkaizer/Shuten Doji: Re-release double-feature (IIRC)
- Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit Vol. 4
- Mythical Detective Loki Ragnarock Complete: Somewhat interesting series, with Loki being exiled from the realm of the gods, into the form of a human child, but still retaining some of his powers and deciding to open a detective agency.
- Neil Young Archives, Vol. 1: 1963-1972: Also available on Blu-Ray.
- Prison Break: Season Four
- Quincy, M.E. Season Three
- Raising the Bar: The Complete First Season
- Rugrats: Season One: From the same creator as “Aeon Flux.” Check out the very distinctive tongue animations.
- Rugrats: Season Two
- Wallander – Sidetracked/Firewall/One Step Behind: No idea how this got stuck under Documentary. This is a BBC mystery series that I caught an episode of staring Kenneth Branagh as Inspector Wallander of the Swedish police. Branagh is planning to cast one of his co-stars, Chris Hemsworth, as Thor in the upcoming film (according to Coming Soon.net).
- Weeds: Season Four
- Zatoichi: Complete First Season
- Zeroman: Complete Series
Now, the Blu-Ray picks:
- Air Force One
- Anaconda
- Baby on Board
- Bruce Almighty
- Chocolat
- Cop Land
- Defiance
- Direct Contact
- Dragon’s Lair II: Time Warp
- Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete Collection: From what I’ve heard about this, aside from including the Last Order OVA, as well as an new animated short focused on Denzel, the special effects have been re-done as well, there has been some expansion to the story and adjustments to the character models (including the introduction of the minor character point that Tifa and Cloud are now, if not married, than engaged), as well as stuff to make the Geostigma a little more noticible, and more of a problem than just looking like a weird rash). Apparently, the changes are enough that some sites are re-reviewing the movie. Unfortunately this release does not have the demo of Final Fantasy XIII that the Japanese release had, instead featuring a new trailer instead.
- Fletch
- Glory Road
- Gosford Park
- The Graduate
- He’s Just Not That Into You
- Inside Man
- Navy Seals
- Neil Young Archives Vol. 1: 1963-1972
- Out of Time
- Revolutionary Road
- Road House
- Rollerball
- Spring Breakdown
- Walking Tall
- Weeds: Season Four
Finally, the picks of the week. AceCaseOR recommends “The Irresponsible Captain Tylor,” though if you have Blu-Ray you might want to consider “Advent Children Complete” as well. Fiziko recommends either “Fletch” or “Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children” if you have Blu-Ray capacity, or waiting until next week for “Reaper: Season Two” if you don’t.
