Once more, nothing worth going out of your way for. Next week’s releases step up the average quality considerably.
First, the DVD picks:
- 1001 Classic Commercials Collection
- American Gladiators (Original Series): The Battle Begins
- Aquarian Age Complete: Alex says: “Anime based on a trading card game.”
- Batmania: From Comics to Screen: Fiziko says: “This seems to be a special about the Adam West and Burt Ward series, released around the time of the first Tim Burton movie.”
- Bewitched: Complete Eighth Season
- Bleach Season 3 Uncut – The Rescue: Available with or without Hollow Mask. Alexander Case (AceCaseOR) says: “This covers season 3 of Bleach uncut, as was shown on Hulu, and which I reviewed here.”
- Blue Seed Complete Collection: Alex says: “I’d call this a Magical Girl equivalent of Neon Genesis Evangelion, execept this came out a year before Eva started. “
- Burn Up Complete: Alex says: “OVA about a sort of special ops police taskforce (different from Public Security Section 9 – it’s a bit more Miami Vice meets Bubblegum Crisis-ish).”
- The Butcher
- Case Closed – Season 1 Complete: Alex says: “This is the series which was originally released in Japan as Detective Conan (which got its name changed for trademark reasons).”
- Claymore, Vol. 6
- The Color of Magic
- Cromarte High School Complete
- The Edge of Love
- ER: Complete Eleventh Season
- Explicit Ills
- For All Mankind: Fiziko says: “A Criterion Collection release of a documentary about Apollo 11. Also available on Blu-Ray.”
- Gakuen Alice Complete Collection
- G.I. Joe: Season 1.1
- Gungrave – The Complete Series: Alex says: “One of the series Funimation sifted from the ashes of Geneon USA’s demise.”
- The Haunting in Connecticut
- Leverage: The Complete First Season
- Mad Men: Season Two
- Peyton Place: Part Two
- Red Skelton – America’s Clown Prince
- Rolling Stones: Biggest Bang: Alex says: “Concert film for their most recent tour (appropriately titled the “Biggest Bang Tour”)”
- The State: Complete Series
- Tracey Takes On: Complete Seasons 3 and 4
- Van Wilder: Freshman Year
- Welcome to Macintosh: Alex says: “If this stays outside of the reality distortion field (like, say, Pirates of Silicon Valley did), then this could be very interesting.”
- Wire in the Blood – Complete Sixth Season
- WWE Allied Powers: World’s Greatest Tag Teams: Alex says: “On the bright side, we’ve got more of the Killer Bees, Steiners, Hart Foundation, Rockers, and other great teams (including the NAO). On the minus side, Those Damn Dudleyz are not present.”
- Zorro: Generation Z, Volume 1
Now, the Blu-Ray picks:
- Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon / Curse of the Golden Flower / House of Flying Daggers Trilogy
- The Edge of Love
- Explicit Ills
- For All Mankind
- The Haunting
- I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
- Mad Men Season Two
- Towering Inferno
Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “Now, I haven’t seen For All Mankind, otherwise I’d go for it. That said, if you’ve seen Season 2 of Bleach, and you’ve been waiting for the uncut release, you might as well go for it (actually, in general, this isn’t a horrible week for anime).” Fiziko says, “I’m also more interested in For All Mankind than anything else, but maintain my advice of saving the budget for July 21 and 28 releases.”
What about The Color of Magic? Terry Pratchett is always good, but has anyone seen the movie itself?
I saw it. It was pretty good. I’d get it if it was out on bluray etc etc.
