Here’s the first of two consecutive great weeks.
First, the DVD picks:
- 2 or 3 Things I Know About Her (Criterion Collection)
- Charlie’s Angels: Complete Fourth Season
- Coraline: Single Disc
- Coraline: Two disc edition
- Echelon Conspiracy
- An Empress & The Warriors: A: Dragon Dynasty release of a fairly recent Wuxia film.
- Eureka Seven Complete Collection Part 2
- Frontline – The Madoff Affair
- Godannar Complete: A: A re-release of the series with everything in one brick. This is a super-robot show with a “the pilots of the two combining are romantically involved” gimmick.
- The Great Buck Howard
- Hayate The Combat Butler Vol. 1: A: Subtitles only release. It’s something of a harem romantic comedy show where the main character is a battle butler.
- Jon and Kate Plus Ei8ht: Season Four, Volume Two – The Big Move
- Kyo Kara Maoh! Season 2
- Lucy Show: The Official First Season
- Made in U.S.A. (Criterion Collection)
- Mezzo: A: Anime series spun-off from Mezzo Forte, but with all the explicit sex removed (which is a good thing, because a bunch of said explicit sex in Mezzo Forte wasn’t consensual).
- The Mighty Boosh: Complete Season 1
- The Mighty Boosh: Complete Season 2
- The Mighty Boosh: Complete Season 3
- Mobile Suit Gundam 00 Season 1 Part 1: A: This series does for Gundam Wing what Gundam SEED did to the first Universal Century Gundam series (note – this isn’t saying that Gundam SEED is bad, at least the first series anyway).
- Monk: Complete Season Seven
- Naruto Uncut Vol. 15: A: Still Filler. You’ll know we’ve gotten past the time skip when the title says “Shippuden”.
- Paradise Kiss Complete: A: A show about a girl who becomes a fashion model (sort of).
- Prison Break: Final Break
- Psych: Complete Season Three: F: This is a must buy.
- Pushing Daisies: Complete Second Season: F: It’s also the final season, at least in live action form. It sounds like there will be a third season in comic form coming later this year to take care of the cliffhangers. Also available on Blu-Ray.
- Robot Chicken: Star Wars – Episode II
- Rosen Maiden Traumend Box Set: A: Another series rescued from the ashes of Geneon USA’s demise.
- Route 66: Season 3, Volume 1
- Samurai Gun Completed
- Stargate SG-1: Children of the Gods: F: A new release and new edit of the pilot episode of SG-1.
- Strawberry Panic Complete: A: This is the slimpack release. The series is a sort of romance/slice-of-life series with a Shoujo-Ai theme.
- Suzuka Complete Set: A: Romantic Comedy Sports Anime.
- This American Life: Season Two
- Voltron Volume 8
- Watchmen (Theatrical Cut)
- Watchmen (Director’s Cut): Two-Disc Special Edition
- Wolverine and the X-Men: Deadly Enemies: F: The first few episodes of the series.
- World of Narue Complete: A: Science-Fiction-ish romantic comedy anime, that was rescued from the ashes of Central Park Media’s demise by ADV.
Now, the Blu-Ray picks:
- 300 Complete Experience
- Black Rain
- Coach Carter
- Coraline
- Boogeyman 3
- Echelon Conspiracy
- The Great Buck Howard
- I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
- Manchurian Candidate
- Midnight Express
- Nacho Libre
- Payback: Straight Up – Director’s Cut
- Prison Break: Final Break
- Pushing Daisies: Complete Second Season
- Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow
- The Truman Show
- Watchmen (Director’s Cut)
- Watchmen (Director’s Cut) – Amazon.com Exclusive Packaging: Yes, it’s in the Nite-Owl ship.
Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “Watchmen, be it on Blu-Ray or DVD (whichever you have a player for).” Fiziko says, “I’ve been suggesting saving up for this week and next week for a while. As far as I’m concerned, Watchmen, Psych, Monk, Pushing Daisies are all must haves, with more coming next week.”
I could’ve sworn Pushing Daisies had 3 seasons, but I apparently don’t know how to count (:
VERY tempted to get what’s it called. Watchmen! But I hear there’ll be an even better edition in December? Man I’m tired.
