So, who won’t be at Episode 2 opening night?

  1. I won’t
I won’t be at Episode II opening night. I love Star Wars, but I can wait a couple of days to see it.

I busted my hump to get into Phantom Menace on opening night, and it turned out to be a positive, though not spectacular, moviegoing experience — not something I really needed to pay extra and wait in line for hours for.

If Episode II is truly awesome, I may once again go through the effort to see Episode III on day one. But until then, I’m saving my opening-night efforts for The Two Towers.

  2. Nor Will I
I just don’t think I can take all the Ewoks that will inevitably show up for opening night. Clearly, I fall in the camp of fan, not fanatic.

On the other hand, a friend of mine often gets to go to sneak previews for the press, and can usually have a friend tag along. I’ve got first right of refusal on that one. There are usually only 5 or 6 people there, and they all know how to keep their pie holes shut once the lights go down.

I doubt you could say the same for the Ewoks.

I agree. I caught Episode I a week before opening
because my wife worked for Fox Animation at the time.
I’ve got an invitation to see Episode II up in Marin
County, but I probably won’t make the drive from Los
      Angeles.

      The THX Theater Alignment Program
(TAP) is going to be reviewing every 50th film print for
quality issues in the duplication. It’s easy to believe this
will open on 3000 screens, so that means at least 60
showings ahead of time, and they’ll be looking for
warm bodies to watch those prints…

I don’t suppose that invitation is transferrable to someone who’s a mere half-hour from Marin County? :)

  3. opening night? why not just opening afternoon
i’ve seen several movies at 3pm or so on opening days (whether opening day starts at midnight, or a more normal time) and there’s never a crowd. and you still get the geeky satisfaction of seeing it the first day it’s out.

Not in my town! I saw Episode I at two in the morning on opening night. It was packed, packed, packed. Lines around the block. From what I heard, the next day wasn’t any better.

  4. Ummm, it’s just a trailer
2 minutes of tease isn’t enough to make me brave all those
    crazy people.
