This week may be mediocre, but the next three aren’t.
First, the DVD picks:
- 17 Again
- 90210: Season One: This is the new series.
- Adam-12 Season Three
- Alien Trespass
- Almost Heaven
- America’s Test Kitchen: Season Nine
- Are You Being Served? Complete Collection
- Born in 68
- The City: Season One
- Comedy Party Pack: Includes Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy, Blades of Glory and Drillbit Taylor. Say what you will of the content, but you’ve got to admit that’s appropriate packaging for this set.
- Darker Than Black Volume 6
- Designing Women: Season Two
- Donkey X
- Fist of Fear, Touch Of Death: Alex: Of all the god-freaking-aweful Lee-Alike movies that were churned out of Hong Kong (the number probably is greater than every Jean-Claude Van Damme, Steven Segal, Wesley Snipes, and Dolph Lundgren direct-to-video atrocity combined), this is the worst.
- Gigantic
- Grenadier Complete Collection LiteBox (with or without figurine): Alex: I’m presuming “litebox” is another way of saying “slimpack”.
- Hunter X Hunter Vol. 3
- I Love You Man
- Jacob Two Two Meets the Hooded Fang
- James Dean: Fast Lane
- King Eagle: Shaw Brothers film about a swordsman who must resolve a feud between two warring clans, each lead by one-half of a pair of twins.
- Lone Wolf & Cub Season 1: The first season of the live-action Lone Wolf & Cub TV series, based on the manga.
- Michael Jackson – Good-Bye, Michael: Blaine: with that title, it sounds like this one was produced and released after his death. That’s really freakin’ fast given the production and distribution times for DVDs.
- Moonwalking: The True Story of Michael Jackson: Blaine: This DVD and book combination hit fast. I don’t know if it’s a product that was rushed after his death, or if it’s an existing product that was just hurried back into production, but I suspect the latter just due to the time frames.
- Pulling: The Complete Second Season
- Road Trip: Beer Pong
- Romeo X Juliet Part 2
- Saiyuki Complete: Re-release
- Super-Friends: The Lost Episodes: Includes 24 short cartoons produced in 1983 but never broadcast.
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Collection: Includes the original live action trilogy and the CGI entry.
- Tiger’s Tail
- Twilight: Three disc special edition
- UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie Seasons 3 & 4
- What’s Up? Balloon to the Resuce: Blaine: A CGI hot air balloon kids movie. Why do I suspect somebody is hoping the DVD shoppers don’t look closely enough at packaging to find out if this is Disney or not?
- Zorro: Generation Z Two
Now, the Blu-Ray picks:
- 17 Again
- Alien Trespass
- Blue Thunder
- Cutthroat Island
- Donkey X
- Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid: Alex reviewed this in 2008.
- I Love You Man
- The Ninth Gate
- Replicant
- St. Elmo’s Fire
- Starman
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie collection: Includes the original live action trilogy and the CGI entry.
Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “Not a lot of anything good this week – my pick is Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid on Blu-Ray, if you don’t have it already – and you have a DVD player. If you don’t have a Blu-Ray player and you don’t already have seasons 1 and 2 (Fumoffu) – here ya go!.” Blaine says, “go with the Starman Blu-Ray if you can play it. If not, you may want to wait for the deluge of TV on DVD that hits from August 18 to September 8.”
A three disc version of Twilight? There was barely anything interesting enough for one disc, let alone THREE.
I fear for our childrens’ brains.
I used to occasionally worry about young whipper-snappers showing up and taking over the world.
I’m not too worried about that anymore.
