- Brave Archer and his Mate: Release of another Shaw Brothers film featuring a few of the stars from Five Deadly Venoms.
- The Bridge to Nowhere
- Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion Season 2 in both limited and standard editions: Alex: Not sure what the Limited Editon’s special is, probably soundtrack CD or a pencil board or something, and anyway, if you pre-order it’s actually less expensive – at this writing – than the Standard Edition.

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “Well, I’m supposed to pick something I’ve seen already, so as much as I’d like to choose Five Deadly Venoms, it would be bad of me to do so. So, if you’ve got Blu-Ray, I’d reccomend Kagemusha instead. The Criterion Collection does an excellent job on just about everything, and this should be no exception. Besides, this is the movie that got me interested in Kurosawa and the Sengoku period of Japanese history. Not Seven Samurai. Not Yojimbo. Not Sanjuro. Kagemusha. Though, I’m hoping that we those other Kurosawa movies join Kagemusha on Blu-Ray.” Blaine says, “I haven’t seen either of this week’s Criterion releases yet, so I’m going with The Last Starfighter. It’s not great, but it’s entertaining and a good summer flick. The alternative is to save up for the flood of TV titles coming, the bulk of which hit August 25 and September 1.”

I just rewatched The Last Starfighter last weekend. That movie never gets old, it’s always just as good as I remember it being.
Part of me (the part low on fundage) says that I don’t think I’d want to buy the 25th Anniv. Ed. because I’ve already got it. But the other part of me (the fanboy) doesn’t care and wants to see how much better the digital transfer looks.
Something tells me it won’t improve dramatically, since I didn’t find anything really distracting about the way the original looked on DVD.
I always loved that movie. As a kid it freaked me out when the dude unscrewed his head.
