Weekly Digital Disk Picks – August 25th, 2009

The TV flood begins early this year. I suspect that they are trying to recover viewers lost during the strike by getting seasons out on DVD and Blu-Ray early enough to catch up before the new season starts.

First, the DVD picks:

Now, the Blu-Ray picks:

Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “this week is loaded with TV releases, but the only one I’ve seen is the season of Smallville. House and Dungeons and Dragons are must buy items, but I either haven’t seen them at all or not recently enough to suggest. Get the show you want to get, and throw in a cheap copy of The General if you don’t already have one.” Alex says, “I haven’t particularly seen much of anything on the list unfortunately, so I cannot have an actual pick. That said, I will be watching The Rise and Fall of WCW. I suspect that I’ll be forming a “90s Wrestling Collection”, with Monday Night Wars, the 3 ECW collections (Extreme Rules, Bloodsport and Rise and Fall of ECW), and this DVD.”

  1. Genshiken season 2 is a must buy for me this week. It was licensed almost as soon as it was announced so I haven’t seen it yet. But season 1 and the manga were both quite enjoyable so unless there’s a major fubar I think it’s a safe bet this should be good too.

Also while I don’t know if I’d class it a buy, Batman: The brave and the bold is a fun little toon I’d recommend a watch. Even if I do still have trouble with batmans VA sounding like Hoss Delgado instead of Batman.

  2. The Complete Billy Jack Collection!!!!” Will wonders (or marketing) never cease.

The only movie most people remember is the second one, which is a fascinating period piece and worth seeing once if you have an interest in the era. The first film has some appeal as a late 60s exploitation/drive-in flick. Hard to find anyone with much love for the others, however.

I bet even theangrymob would prefer another viewing of Twilight to Billy Jack Goes to Washington.
