The TV flood begins early this year. I suspect that they are trying to recover viewers lost during the strike by getting seasons out on DVD and Blu-Ray early enough to catch up before the new season starts.

- Shaw Brothers Collection II: Collects the films Brothers Five, Brave Archer and His Mate, Holy Flame Of The Martial World and Journey Of The Doomed, all of which have been released seperately previously.
- Smallville: Season Eight
- Spirited Killer Trilogy: Basically, this is a trilogy of Muai Thai psycho horror films, with Tony Jaa playing the guy going to hunt down the (basically) Muai Thai Jason.
- Superman Collectable Tin with Handle: Blaine: This includes the excellent Fleischer cartoons.
- thirtysomething: Complete First Season
- Twilight: Ultimate Collector’s Gift Set: Blaine: How many editions of this do we need? I won’t judge the books as I haven’t read them. I have, however, seen the movie, and it was terrible. I didn’t get a “love” vibe, I got a “stalker” vibe. I found the special effects to be poorly done and inconsistent, looking to me like they’d farmed it out to multiple effects shots. (There’s a big leap in the final fight that’s concave up, not concave down. That doesn’t happen with big leaps, that happens with actors on wires. That problem bothered Buster Keaton when he hit it in 1917, and he’d fixed it by 1922. Now, 87 years later, these guys do it again.
- The Untouchables, Season Three, Vol. 1
- Wanted: Dead or Alive: Season One
- Wanted: Dead Or Alive: Complete Series
- When They Cry: Complete Box Set: Alex: I haven’t seen this myself, but I’ve good things about the series before it was licenced, as being a very interesting and creepy (and violent) horror anime series.
- Welcome To The NHK Complete Series Boxed Set
- Wrestling Classics Vol. 1: Old school wrestling matches.
- Wrestling Classics Vol. 2: More of the stuff in Vol. 1.
- WWE Night Of Champions 2009
- WWE Rise And Fall Of WCW: A second documentary from WWE about, well, the rise and fall of World Championship Wrestling – which I doubt the Wrestlecrap guys will be providing any feedback over.
- Young and Innocent: Early Hitchcock
Now, the Blu-Ray picks:
- Adventureland
- Children of the Corn
- Devil May Cry: The Complete Series Set
- Duplicity
- Fighting
- How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
- Lie to Me: Season One
- Smallville: Season Eight
- Sunshine Cleaning
- Water Life
Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “this week is loaded with TV releases, but the only one I’ve seen is the season of Smallville. House and Dungeons and Dragons are must buy items, but I either haven’t seen them at all or not recently enough to suggest. Get the show you want to get, and throw in a cheap copy of The General if you don’t already have one.” Alex says, “I haven’t particularly seen much of anything on the list unfortunately, so I cannot have an actual pick. That said, I will be watching The Rise and Fall of WCW. I suspect that I’ll be forming a “90s Wrestling Collection”, with Monday Night Wars, the 3 ECW collections (Extreme Rules, Bloodsport and Rise and Fall of ECW), and this DVD.”
Genshiken season 2 is a must buy for me this week. It was licensed almost as soon as it was announced so I haven’t seen it yet. But season 1 and the manga were both quite enjoyable so unless there’s a major fubar I think it’s a safe bet this should be good too.
Also while I don’t know if I’d class it a buy, Batman: The brave and the bold is a fun little toon I’d recommend a watch. Even if I do still have trouble with batmans VA sounding like Hoss Delgado instead of Batman.
D&D and Scrubs. Nostalgic joy + new love joy. Awesome week, even if it does inflict upon us YET ANOTHER version of Twilight.
“The Complete Billy Jack Collection!!!!” Will wonders (or marketing) never cease.
The only movie most people remember is the second one, which is a fascinating period piece and worth seeing once if you have an interest in the era. The first film has some appeal as a late 60s exploitation/drive-in flick. Hard to find anyone with much love for the others, however.
I bet even theangrymob would prefer another viewing of Twilight to Billy Jack Goes to Washington.
Dungeons & Dragons is a great buy if you don’t already have it, especially at sale prices. BTW someone posted a good detailed list of why there’s a new DVD set.
