I’m busy right now so this week’s Fringe gets a discussion and not a review. The ongoing story arc has alternate realities looming, Not-Charlie plotting, and Dunham hearing things. The main plot features a sinister scarecrow, missing persons, and a little creep in a small town. With this freak-of-the-week ep, Fringe more than ever recalls X-Files.
In particular, I kept thinking of the X classic, Home.

I don’t have an issue with the “monster of the week” episode every once in a while. In fact, I could see the show being better if they did them more often since Joshua Jackson and John Noble are much, much better actors that Anna Torv and the pattern episodes tend to be more about her.
One thing I really liked about this one was that they seem to be making Peter more of a father than Walter. I think that showcases what the characters should really be like. Walter seems to be smart science-wise but very child-like otherwise and Peter is vice-versa.
Good observations about the characters– and they will need to keep developing them if the show is to last. The bits I like (other than some occasional, well-done scary movie stuff) involve interesting character interaction, but it has been unevenly handled in the show’s short history. Walter is great– but a little of the character goes a long way, and they need the others to be strong enough to balance his mad, child-like eccentricity.

I laughed out loud (really) when they showed the look that Walter fired back when he was told that he COULD ride in the ambulance but NOT play with the medications.
John Noble rocks.
