October is upon us. That means the Halloween and Christmas themed releases are ready to start.
First, the DVD picks:
- Ally McBeal: Complete Series
- Anvil: The Story of Anvil: Alex: Documentary film about a heavy metal band that is, basically, the real-life inspiration for Spinal Tap.
- Audition: Collector’s Edition: Alex: Freaky, disturbing suspense/horror film from Takeshi Miike – but I repeat myself.
- Bleed With Me
- Blood Ties: Season Two
- Bones: The Complete Fourth Season
- The Children
- Children of the Corn
- Chinese Odyssey 2002: Alex: This is billed as a kung-fu farse in the line of Stephen Chow’s work (Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer).

- Heeeere’s Johnny
- He Is My Master: Complete Collection: Alex: Series brick of a rather fan-service heavy maid anime.
- The Hills: Season Five, Part One
- How To Be A Man: Blaine: These classic “educational” shorts produced from 1949-1970 were designed to teach young boys how to behave properly. Given the dateline and content, I doubt you’d get the same advice today.
- How To Be A Woman: Blaine: I’m betting these shorts are even more dated.
- Karloff and Lugosi Horror Classics: Includes “The Walking Dead,” “Frankenstein 1970,” “You’ll Find Out” and “Zombies on Broadway.”

- Murphy’s Law: Season One

- Nip/Tuck: Season Five, Volume 2
- Offspring
- Otoboku Complete: Alex: Semi-fanservice heavy anime about a boy who is attending his mother’s private high school to honor his grandfather’s last request – but the relevant high school is girls-only.
- Paranormal State: Complete Season Three
- Prototype This: Season One
- PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal
- RahXephon: Complete Collection: Alex: Probably one of the first (and best) series to capitalize on the success of Neon Genesis Evangelion
- Red Dwarf: Back to Earth
- Seventh Moon
- Six Feet Under: Complete Series
- Stargate Atlantis: The Complete Series: Blaine: If you want the big box packaging, go ahead, but at the time of this writing it’s a lower total cost to buy the the Seasons 1-4 shrinkwrap along with the individual season five release.
- Story of Saiunkoku: The Complete Season One: Alex: Shoujo Series set in a fictitious fantasy country, about a girl who wishes to become a government official but can’t because she’s female – and then the prince proposes to her.

- Tales from the Cryptkeeper: The Complete Second Season – All The Gory Details

- Ultimate Matrix Collection
- Unsolved Mysteries: Bizarre Murders, Volume 4
- The Velveteen Rabbit
- Year One
- Zorro: Generation Z, Vol. 4

- Rogue
- Seventh Moon
- Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: The two disc set, where the second disc is a DVD copy.

Finally, the picks of the week. Blaine says, “if you’ve somehow managed to avoid getting a copy so far, you should definitely grab the Ghostbusters set. Otherwise, Snow White is a strong contender, in whichever packaging suits you.” Alex says, “Snow White wasn’t my favorite Disney film – but I did like Contact, so if you’ve got Blu-Ray, I reccomend picking that up.”
Children of the Corn is the recent syfy remake that wasn’t that good IMHO.
Looks like Battle for Terra from a weeks back and Red Dwarf: Back to Earth are probably the only things I’m picking up this week. Although the cheap re-release of From the Earth to the Moon is tempting.
