The Disappearance Of Haruhi Suzumiya Gets Theatrical Release

AnimeVice.com is reporting that The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya, the fourth novel in the Haruhi series, is being adapted for a theatrical release (as an animated film, not a live-action one). There had been prior rumors that the novel would be adapted to the second season of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, but instead the series was taken up by an adaptation of the novel The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya, and adaptations of the short story “Bamboo Leaf Rhapsody”, and an 8-episode adaptation of the short story “Endless Eight”.

The first season covered the first novel, plus most of The Boredom of Haruhi Suzumiya, The Rashness of Haruhi Suzumiya, and The Disturbance of Haruhi Suzumiya. None of these novels have gotten a US release yet, though The Sigh is supposedly already out – though I haven’t seen it anywhere yet, and don’t know anyone whose seen it yet. Season 2 hasn’t been licensed yet either, though considering how well season 1 did in the US, it’s likely to get licensed, along with the film, after it comes out.
