Weekly Digital Disc Picks – November 10, 2009

We’ve got some libraries titles this week before next week’s doorcrashers.

First, the DVD picks:

Now, the Blu-Ray picks:

Finally, the picks of the week. Alex says, “This is a good week if you’ve got Blu-Ray. Since I haven’t seen the Ultimate Cut of Watchmen yet, I can’t pick that. However, I can pick Heat. Nothing in standard definition catches my attention, aside from Lyrical Nanoha, if you don’t have it already.” Blaine says, “Blu-Ray is the way to go this week. Amelie and The General are both must haves as far as I’m concerned. The Justice League collection is also well done if you’re looking for standard definition.”

    • I believe it’s a studio cut. The shortest cut was for theatrical release, then the director’s cut added more footage. I think the Ultimate Cut includes even more footage to produce another release for the Christmas season, despite the fact that both the director and editor felt the movie was stronger without that footage in the first place.

      • “This version weaves Tales of the Black Freighter into the Watchmen Director’s Cut film.”
Sounds like the closest you’ll get to translating the graphic novel directly to film, minus the squid. What I want to know is: are they just intercut, or does it include scenes with the news vendor and kid to explain why it’s there?
