From Comics To Film – Who Should Be Next?

Thanks to the success of X-Men, and the
unprecedented success of Spider-Man, all of
those comic-to-movie projects that have been
languishing for years have been kicked into high gear.
There are movies (some of which are sequels) in the
works for Spider-Man, Superman, Batman, The Hulk,
Wonder Woman, Ghost Rider, Blade, X-Men, Fantastic
Four, Iron Fist, Power Man, Daredevil, Namor the
Sub-Mariner, Mort the Dead Teenager, The Punisher, and
Iron Man. (Did I miss anyone?) The question I ask
you is this: who should be added to this list? Which
hero, villain or team would you choose to adapt next?
Who would you cast in the movie?

  1. How about…
Well, there’s ROM Spaceknight, least now they could pull off the effects pretty well with the Dire Wraiths.

Or how about Silver Surfer? Who wouldn’t want to see Galactus on the big screen?

I’ve always wanted to see Ghostrider (I hear they’re actually making that one). To be honest though, I’d rather see GhostRider 2099. Kenshiro was a much better GR.

Speaking of the 2099 series, Doom 2099 would be cool. Doom as US President would rock.

    Oooooo, Iron Man :)

  2. Oldies
How About ‘Cloak And Dagger’? A Duo Dynamic Would Be Interesting. You’ve Got A Good, Female Lead (With Lots Of Cleavage), And A Darker, More Sinister Male. Sounds Like Something For Holywood To Work with. (Or The fact That I Didn’t Read Many Of Them And Haven’t Read Anything At all For a Long Time Is Showing.)

I’d Like To See Firestar, At Least For The Skin Tight Spandex. Iceman’s Already Made An Apperance As A Kid In X-Men, So I Guess Having Them In The Next Spidey Is Out.

    Dr. Strange Might Be Interesting.

And I Agree, Silver Surfer Would Be Great. But The Lead Would Be Totally CGI, With That Liquid Metal Look To him…

  3. Comic movies?
There’s only one comic book I can think of thta really deserves treatment on the big screen. It’s been stuck in development hell for years, but it still deserves to be on the screen. I’m sure you know what it is.

    PREACHER

Though most people can’t look past all the blood, cursing, and very insane and demented content to see the beautiful story told in this series as well as the great character development. The scale of this series is also amazing and would look great on the big screen. If you look around, there’s images of the makeup for Arseface from one of the many times this project got going, only to be stopped in its tracks. I just hope that the studios don’t try to force an early ending on this series as it deserves at least a trilogy to tell the entire story.

  4. The MAXX
I personally liked the story. Very strange, but I thought it was entertaining.

  5. The Green Lantern
Green Lantern has always been one of my favorite comicbook superheroes. Another character that couldn’t have been done justice until very recently as well, because of his rings powers.

If a movie like this ever did get made, the obvious (and safe) way to go would be to base it on the Hal Jordan character, and setup a very generic, Earth-bound storyline against Sinestro or somebody. But wouldn’t it be nice if someone could pull off a movie involving the galaxy-spanning, GL Corps/Guardians of Oa storyline? Introduce the new GL on Earth, and immediately thrust him into battle with all the other Lanterns against some cosmic threat? You thought seeing all those Jedi’s in Ep2 was cool? Imagine seeing hundreds or thousands of Green Lanterns from various worlds battling it out. Probably a pipe dream of course, but what the heck.

      I couldn’t agree more!

However, I do like the Kyle character. It would be cool to have a series that goes something like this:
      1) Introductory Hal character
      2) Green Lanterns in space, Hal goes bad, kills all the GL’s
      3) Kyle takes over and takes out bad Hal.

Come to think of it, this is sort of an Anakin/Vader/Luke arc. Superhero movies rarely have the guts to make the hero truly bad. Evem Vader is redeemed in the end.

What actually has happened to Hal in the comics now? I haven’t followed them for about 5 years…

He’s now the Spectre, granting other lost souls a shot at redemption.

  6. not sure

    • Iron Man – the costume wouldn’t look good, and the movie would involve too much CGI.
    • Incredible Hulk – man vs. his anger. boring.
    • Captain America – patriotism is cool again, but Cap’s costume would look over the top in live action.
    • the Avengers, Thor, Dr. Strange, or GL – too much CGI
    • Punisher – too violent. Vigilante movies became passe in the 80’s.
    • New Universe – a lot of potential here.

I’d like to see a Firestorm movie based on the legendary issues about Firestorm demanding that world leaders dismantle all their nuclear weapons. That’s a movie.

Otherwise, just do a Shazam movie.

Spidey’s Looked Alright, And His Was The Same ‘Spandex Covered’ Style That Cap’s Is.

      • Punisher – too violent. Vigilante movies became passe in the 80’s.

Didn’t They Do A ‘Punisher’ Movie In The 80’s?

(I Know They Did A ‘Punisher’ Movie, But I Dunno When.)

Yeah, starring Dolph Lundgren. This time
the studio respects the property, so expect something
        better.

  7. Hulk – The Movie
When they make the Hulk movie it should star Rob Schnieder and The Rock. I don’t know who they’ve cast for it now, but it should defineitly be changed. Just try to imagine the transformation scene.

Bruce Banner is played by Eric Bana. They’re hoping to do
for him what X-Men did for Hugh Jackman. (In
fact, it was Hugh Jackman’s success that helped Ang Lee
convince the studio suits to let him cast an unknown.) The
Hulk will be completely CGI, since no human is as large as
the Hulk should be. (Seven feet tall, 1040 lbs. according
to the second series of Marvel cards. Ang Lee’s making him
bigger than that, though; up to fifteen feet the last time
      I heard.)

The movie also stars Jennifer Connelly (Betty Ross,) Sam
Elliott (General Ross,) Josh Lucas (Maj. Talbot,) Nick
Nolte (Brian Banner,) and Brooke Langton (Jennifer
Sossman.) Full details at this IMDB
      page
      .

Oh, and if they ever cast Rob Schneider in a Marvel movie
as something other than “hapless victim of gruesome death”
then I’m going to skip that movie.

  8. Green Latern
Ok Green Latern (been a long time since I’ve seen one of
those comics anyway). Why we are at it bring back the Green Hornet as a file. Now who is going to be cast as Kato?

  9. JTHM
You know you want a Johnny The Homicidal Maniac movie. Or perhaps Happy Noodle Boy.

Though I think the next Nick film ought to be an Invader Zim installment, so I am biased.

  10. Next best comic to Movie ideas
I say they should do a Superman Movie based on the Doomsday series. In addition I believe they should do a third Spiderman movie and have Venom in it as well as the Lizard and add in a common villian to those who read or have read Spiderman and that is the Kingpin. The second Daredevil movie would be good, but have him team up with another hero.I’d also want to see a Fantastic Four movie. I would like to see Arnold Scharzneggar as Thing, Vin Diesel as Johnny Storm, Micheal Keaton as Reed Richards, and like on Superhero hype.com Trish Stratus as Sue Storm. The last comic book I’d like to see be made into a movie is another Punisher movie.
