Vote for Upcoming Reviews

After Christmas, I counted my collection. I had 236 unwatched seasons of TV shows on DVD, HD DVD and Blu-Ray. I’m now trying to work through them, and I’m looking for reader input about which series they want to see reviewed. EDIT: I missed a few choices the first time.

Not all of these unwatched seasons are genre, and I’ve already watched some for the Supernatural reviews (which will be published every two weeks through February 20, covering up to season four.) Do you, as our readers, have preferences for what gets reviewed next? The options are as follows:

  1. Ahhh, Reaper. One of the best shows to fall in the great purging of ’09. You will be missed.

Oh, can’t really vote for anything. Reviews are meaningless to me. I form my own opinions on everything, and only read reviews afterward to compare notes.

  2. I’m interested in hearing what you think about these to help me decide if I want to watch them:
    – Farscape
    – Neon Genesis Evangelion
    – Castle

I’m interested in hearing what you think about these because I’d like to compare with my own thoughts:
    – Dollhouse
    – Sliders S1-2 (I could care about anything after that…)
    – Wonderfalls

    • You want to watch Castle. Trust me, you do. Everyone should. It’s still in production, unlike much of the other material, too.

It’s not genre, but it’s worth anyone’s time.

  3. When this was posted, I’d already watched 8 of Castle’s 10 first season episodes. Based on these comments, that’s a guaranteed review, likely in March (as every other weekend review up to February 27 has already been allocated.)

  4. * Aeon Flux (complete series)
    * Battlestar Galactica (1978 series, including Galactica 1980)
    * Futurama (volumes 2-4 and the specials)
    * Land of the Lost (seasons 2-3)
    * Lexx: The Dark Zone (all four seasons)
    * Neon Genesis Evangelion (platinum collection)
    * The Outer Limits (complete original series)
    * Red Dwarf (seasons 2-8)

  5. Teddy Ruxpin? Really?

Also Twin Peaks, Get Smart, and Alfred Hitchcock sort of squeak in.

At least, they do for me. Before Teddy Ruxpin. Bear in mind, that’s just my opinion.

  6. Spouse and I looked over your list; here’s the stuff that caught our eyes. (Blaine’s already seen Spouse’s list and replied by email, but I’ll just repost it here as-is for discussion. :)

First, my list. To help you narrow it down, I’m probably most interested in your reviews of Astroboy and DS9. (That said, I’d be quite interested in reviews of anything on your list, genre or no! :)

Astroboy: Loved it as a kid.
Battlestar Galactica: Very curious is this is actually bad or if it has enough redeeming qualities to make it enjoyable. (Skip “1980”, though, except to enjoy as a Really Bad Movie. The very existence of that movie doesn’t speak highly of the series, come to think of it…)
Darkwing Duck: Saw this sporadically and enjoyed it. I’ve heard it’s actually often deeper than it looks, too. True?
Dead Like Me: As Spouse mentioned, fantastic but depressing show. Looking forward to watching the rest, eventually.
Farscape: Weird but awesome show; it’d be interesting to get your perspective on a season (or the series).
Final Fantasy Unlimited: Never heard of it, but now I want to. :)
Incredible Hulk (Bixby): This was very popular, IIRC. How’s it stand up to time?
Legend of Zelda: I’ve heard terrible things, but hey, it’s Legend of Zelda!
Neon Genesis Evangelion: I’ve seen the first episode and that’s it, but I’d be very interested to hear your take on it as someone who doesn’t watch anime regularly.
Star Trek: I’ve discussed and seen reviews of individual episodes, but I’m very interested in reviews of whole seasons. DS9 in particular.
Super Friends: Was this show as terrible as my memory says?
Get Smart: It is _too_ genre. :) I remember it was fun; was it good?

    Spouse’s list (written by her):

Astroboy: saw when it first came out, loved it. Want to know if it
stands up to being watched as an adult.
Dead Like Me: I’ve only seen the first episode, and cried buckets.
Couldn’t go back to it at the time (depression issues), but some day I
intend to watch the rest of the season we own. It’s excellent.
Legend of Zelda: Do I need to give a reason? It’s Legend of Zelda!
(also: is it good or does it suck?)
Start Trek stuff: I was a hard core trekkie/trekker/whatever for
probably 14 years. Voyager almost managed to kill my interest, and
Enterprise finished it off. But the three you list I want to rewatch
    myself. :)
Alfred Hitchcock Presents: I’ve gotten my dad a few seasons as
Christmas gifts. Really enjoyed watching them, even though I’m
generally not into things that creep you out. Particularly loved the
one episode (first season?) that ends with “The butler really _did_ do
    it!” :)
Stargate: like B5, saw it when it first came out, loved it, but then
got busy with school and didn’t get to watch the rest. Unlike B5, do
not have a husband who owns the whole set. But I remember loving it.
And John Scalzi is a creative consultant on the latest one, and I love
    his blog. :) http://whatever.scalzi.com/
Rockford Files: I remember watching with my parents, and really enjoying.

  7. A lot of people wrote quite a bit already, so I’ll be brief. If I had to pick just one of those off the list, it would be Farscape. Clear and away. Others from that group would be a tough choice for inclusion into my “top five” list, but Farscape is #1 .

Just to continue for a very short side note: right after watching Farscape, go back and rewatch the 200th episode of Stargate SG1 again. – You’ll thank me.

    .

  8. 1) Darkwing Duck
    2) Dark Angel
    3) Dead Like Me
    4) Reaper
    5) Star Trek: TOS
    7) Star Trek: TNG
    6) Star Trek: DSN

That should keep you busy for a while!
