  1. I thoroughly enjoyed the show and the series and am completely disgusted by the way FOX handles ALL of Joss Whedon’s shows. I’m also convinced Joss is a masochist, because he seems to be the only person on the planet unaware of what Fox will do with his show once it airs. I’m glad he got a chance to wrap up the major storylines, but I would’ve enjoyed seeing what he had in mind for more than just a two year, rushed story.

    • In all fairness, things went better than they probably should have. He got Dollhouse on TV in the first place – that’s because Fox wanted Dushku on a show, and she picked Joss to create it. Then, it somehow got a second season, despite the first one being pretty lackluster and full of hooker-of-the-week episodes that did nothing to pull in the viewers or advance the bigger story, and the ratings reflected this.

Was the ending of the second season (and thus the series) perfect? Nope. But at least there was a second season, and a proper ending of sorts.

He didn’t get a second despite giving Fox what they wanted, he got their support by delivering what the client ordered.

  2. The start of the first season was dreadful, nearly unwatchable. After Fox got their hands out of the thing, around the middle of the first season, it started looking up and by the end of that season, it was pretty watchable. I really enjoyed the second season, it is what the series should have been from the beginning.

Now, that thing last night. It was painful to watch. My god, it was horrid. Awful dialog, bad writing. I spent most of the time trying to figure out how it could get ANY worse. “Techheads” talking about “powering down”, just so forced and terrible. I was embarrassed for everyone involved. It was like watching a “Syfy” original movie (which we all know are among the absolute worst movies ever made) that is a knock off of Mad Max. I wish I were a Doll so I could have that travesty wiped from my mind forever. I doubt I will ever recover.

  3. I wish they’d actually aired the first part of the finale at some point. While I enjoyed the series, I’m not all that interested in owning season 1 on DVD just to see part 1 (and I don’t watch DVDs enough to want NetFlix).

We didn’t really get much motivation for why Rossum wanted to wipe everybody. The remaining founder seemed content just sitting in his office eating bon-bons (and now I have the image of Peg Bundy ruling the world from that hideous couch). Surely he could’ve done that (and had much higher quality food and hookers) had society not collapsed.

There were a lot of nice character moments in the finale (especially between Topher and Adelle), but choosing just to air part 2 left me unsatisfied.

  4. I don’t have much to add but I’m pretty much in agreement with everyone else here. Not seeing the first half of the finale really left me scratching my head.

  5. I did see the first half of the finale, but I was not impressed, at all. The ending seemed really forced. I also looked up, and saw it wasn’t written by Joss. I didn’t think Joss would hit a ‘we can fix it all!’ sort of option, and I think the series should have just been left with the world of only a few actuals. (But that’s just my opinion.)

…but then again, we didn’t see the device work, just that it went off, people fell down, and when a girl stood up she was confused and didn’t know what was going on. Also, the tech is still out there. So while things were put back, there’s no reason to think that another ‘blanket signal’ won’t just go out again tomorrow.

I loved this season, but the last two episodes seemed rushed, and unsatisfying. It’s like a great restaurant who just changed their menu and obviously switched to cheaper things.

  6. I thought the episode was pretty strong. Of course I found and watched Epitaph One last week. I think this episode tied into that one excellently.

I think this might be heresay, but I think Dollhouse might have turned out better because it was cancelled. They really turned it on in the final few episodes.

I thought this final one tied it up nicely.
