Premise

Codex hopes the new expansion pack to their game will help mend the issues they’ve had because of the party that ended season two. When the expansion also pits them against a new guild led by Fawkes (Wil Wheaton), things get much worse before they get better.

High Point

“Run in a Z, sweetie!”

Low Point

The wrong Guilder took down Bruiser.

The Review

Again this is an original season. As each season runs about 90 minutes, they basically have a year to come up with a new episode, which is enough time to set up something that they haven’t done before. I give it 5 out of 6.

The effects are pretty minimal. As from the final episode, I can’t think of any, and even that episode had very little. I give it 4 out of 6.

The story was well set up. Clara’s arc is set off by the trigger we knew was coming, but it didn’t play out as expected. The introduction of another guild was a nice touch, and we’ve seen some genuine character development taking place that is very well done. I give it 5 out of 6.

The acting again works well. The core leads were all instrumental in the development of their characters, and the guest stars are similarly well cast. I give it 5 out of 6.

The production was accomplished on a budget. The editing is decent, though it could be a little tighter in places. I give it 4 out of 6.

The emotional response is good. The relationship between Riley and Zaboo is highly amusing, and Wil Wheaton plays out his character very well. I give it 5 out of 6.

Overall, it’s a stronger season than the second, but I still don’t think anything matches the first. I give it 5 out of 6.

In total, The Guild: Season Three receives 33 out of 42.

  1. Would this be watchable without the first two seasons? (Sounds like a great show, but Wil Wheaton’s role has me particularly interested.)

  2. You could probably follow most of it. The serialized format means an entire season (all available free online through the main site or YouTube) takes only 90 minutes or less to watch, so if you’re really concerned it’s not a huge time investment to check them all out. I think it would be well worth it to do so.
